EMERSON, Ga.—With an 8-0 shutout, the up and coming team from Michigan, The D Las Vegas, sealed one of the four spots in the last semifinal of the summer here at LakePoint. With a dominant performance both on the mound and at the plate, righthander Reese Trahey closed the game in more ways than just on the mound, as he hit a two-run double to run-rule Florida Burn in five innings.

Trahey’s five-inning performance left Burn with just two hits on the day with one walk, culminating in an efficient 43 pitch count.

Other productive bats included EH Braedon Stoakes, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Antonio Flores, who had a 2-for-3 day with a RBI. Stoakes led off the first, reaching on an error and was later moved into scoring position by Trahey, who roped a single to right field. A passed ball later scored Stoakes in what was a sloppy defensive day for Burn.

DLV continued to tack on a run in the second, with another hit-by-pitch coming back to burn the Florida Burn, when Gabe Sotres scored off single by Stoakes.

With Trahey shutting down the Florida offense, the errors and walks by the Burn defense continued to play major factors in the outcome. After Jake Heilman led off the inning with a single, a throwing error in Nick Dardas' at-bat led to runners at first and second, for Flores to bring in the third run of the game by way of a single.

Another free pass led to a walked-in run to make it a 4-0 game by the bottom of the third.

The Burn bullpen’s four arms on the day could not contain the offensive barrage of DLV, who was able to capitalize throughout the game on the errors and walks.

Contrary to the name, The D Las Vegas hails from Farmington Hills, Michigan, the state in which the majority of the roster is from. Previously known as Midwest Elite Baseball, owner of the D Las Vegas casino, Derek Stevens, sponsors the team, which is affiliated with the non-profit, Warriors Baseball Club of Michigan.

Prior to the inception of this showcase team, Stevens, alongside his brother, purchased the Las Vegas minor league affiliate of the New York Mets in 2008 and is quoted as being a long-time baseball fan.

DLV is playing their cards close to their vest for the remainder of this tournament, wanting to focus on winning the last two games before taking interviews.

As for rest of the semifinalists, the pool will consist of the East Cobb Astros, Team Georgia and Orlando Scorpions.

The Astros and Team Georgia will face off, as DLV will play another hot offensive team in the Scorpions, who won 14-3 against the East Coast Sox and won it all in 2013.

Most of the Scorpions run production came in the second and seventh innings. Judson Fabian had a 2-for-5 day with four RBIs. Fabian brought in two of the four runs in the second with a double and then hit a two-run single in the seventh. First baseman Dylan Simmons brought in two more runs with one swing of the bat in the fifth with a home run, and ended the day with a single in the seventh, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Righthander Major Posey and lefty Daniel Batcher combined to throw seven innings, giving up three hits and striking out three apiece to leave the Sox with only three runs in the third.

Team Georgia continued the offensive trend, winning 7-1 over Oregon’s Baseball Northwest, as they spread their seven runs out over the first, third and fourth innings. Georgia’s first baseman, Zac Corbin, went 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored, with one of those by stealing home. Although shortstop Kamren James went 0-for-4, he was able to notch two RBIs on the day, with two groundouts.

Righty Blake Wehunt threw a complete game, giving up seven hits with four strikeouts to save arms for tomorrow’s semifinal and potential championship game.

Wrapping up the four teams, the Astros and Elite Squad played a more evenly-matched game, with East Cobb winning 4-2.

Elite Squad’s lone two runs came in the first off Leon Paulino’s two-RBI single. The rest of the offense was on the Astros side, as middle infielders Myles Austin and Spencer Keefe, DH Logan Ketron and catcher J.P. Martin each had a RBI on the day. Clemson commit Mack Anglin, ate most of the innings for the Astros, going 6 1/3 innings, while giving up two runs, with five hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Righthander Taj Bradley got the last two outs to punch the Astros ticket to a possible championship.

All semifinal games start Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m., with the championship game set for 120:15 at LakePoint.
