Jaxx enjoy competition in East

Photo: Perfect Game

EMERSON, Ga. – Twenty seven of the 40 teams in the 16u National Championship Qualifier at LakePoint have the privilege of playing in their own backyard, being from Georgia. That is not the case for the Diamond Jaxx, who traveled over 1800 miles from Salem, Utah, just for an opportunity to qualify for the 16u WWBA National Championship. The team has had to adjust to the style of play in Georgia early on, but have come back nicely with two straight wins to push their record to 2-2.

“It’s a little bit different style of play, but it’s still pretty good competition,” Lance Kinross said. “In Utah, they play a lot of small ball, and in this tournament, we haven’t seen much small ball.”

The Diamond Jaxx lost their first two games of the tournament to the BigStix Gamers 15u and Elite Training Academy. Game one was close, as the Gamers just edged the Diamond Jaxx 4-3. Cade Perkins started the game for the Jaxx, surrendering three hits, six walks and two earned runs over 4 2/3 innings. The offense, though, couldn’t push across another run, even after they responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The team would come back to win their third game, beating the Slammers Sheridan by a score of 3-2. They were aided by a strong outing by Lance Kinross, who went 5 2/3 innings, giving up only four hits and two earned runs, while striking out five. It was his second outing of the tournament, and he has turned in 7 1/3 innings thus far.

“I was able to locate my fastball really well, and then that made it so my curveball was harder to hit and adjust to,” Kinross said.

The righty also went 2-for-2 with an RBI out of the leadoff spot to help his team secure the win.

“It felt really good,” Kinross said. “I had been struggling earlier in the tournament, and it just felt good to finally get some base hits and help out the team offensively.”

The team established a tradition of coming to LakePoint last season, and is excited to be here once again. Even though they had to travel the furthest out of all the teams participating, many said that making a trip to play in a Perfect Game event is always worth it.

“It’s a really fun experience, because there’s always good competition, usually really good coaching staffs and tournament directors,” Kinross said.

Coming out to Perfect Game events provides the team with new experiences. Top-notch competition is something that a few of the players said to be a big difference from their home state of Utah, and though they see good competition, they don’t see it as often as tournaments like this provide.

“I think it’s really good. The competition’s better than the best,” Perkins said. “I think the competition is a lot better out here, the kids are bigger, and it’s a lot different out here.”

Head coach Jason Bergstrom saw the opportunity that the tournament provided for development.

“It just helps them get more comfortable for the future by playing tough competition and being in nice facilities,” Bergstrom said.

Often times, teams from the western part of the U.S. will play events in the surrounding states, but the Diamond Jaxx decided to come out to Georgia to exposure their players to college coaches in the eastern U.S., who don’t normally see their players. Although there are no commits on the team, the have many talented players, including Kyson Stein, the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Utah per Perfect Game, who can benefit from playing in front of coaches from eastern-based programs.

“Scouts can see you from the other side of the country, which is nice,” said Jason Luke. “It’s a little different atmosphere for everybody, and different people can see you that don’t usually see you every day.”

“I think being from Utah, you don’t get a lot of looks from college recruits out in Utah, but when you come to the east side, I think you get looked at a lot more,” Perkins said.

Sunday’s 6-0 win against KCXtreme 16u put the team in a tie for fourth place in their pool with the BigStix Gamers. The offense broke out early against Xtreme, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Dalton Hodge took the ball for the Diamond Jaxx and turned in six innings of one-hit, no-run ball. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound righty has 10 strikeouts over seven innings of work in the tournament. Offensively, Dallan Turner drove in two runs out of the cleanup spot for the Diamond Jaxx, going 2-for-3.

They will play the pool leader, Team GA Baseball Gold 16u, in their next game on Sunday, June 11 at 7:15 p.m.

With three games to go to attempt to win and move on to the playoffs, Bergstrom said that he wanted to see what his team is made of.

“Playing competitively and seeing the best that everyone’s got,” Bergstrom said. “Hopefully we just keep hitting the ball and play good defense and play as a team.”

WWBA Underclass Scout Notes: Days 1-2 | Day 3 | Day 4 Stars Being Stars These are some of the more well-known names on the national landscape, playing across several big events in which they performed at the highest of levels. Their showings in Fort Myers were simply a continuation of what we've almost come to expect at this point from them!  Kasen Langerhans (2028, Round Rock, Texas) batted leadoff and stuck at the hot corner for Texas Twelve Red Sox 2028 in Fort Myers. The Texas native has the looks a young left-handed power bat and the swing is built for it. Langerhans produces easy bat speed, delivering a fast and leveraged barrel through the zone. He creates backspin and uses the ground well, really getting into the legs. The infielder has excellent power projection and took comfortable, intentful cuts in the box. Langerhans got the job done at the top of the order...

South Fall World Series Scout Notes

Kason Mead (2029, Spring, Texas) had a great weekend for Premier Baseball Donato 2029. Went 5-9 with a pair of doubles and a home run, driving in five without striking out. Physical frame with a lot more strength on the way. Impressive bat speed that attacks the top of the zone well. Works to all fields consistently and the profile indicates that he’ll be able to build off that with more impact. Lot to like, should be a riser as he goes into his sophomore season. Sterling McCormack (2029, Magnolia, Texas) performed well for Premier Baseball Donato 2029. Reached four times, including a double. Gains ground well on the stride, using his physicality to his advantage as he stays on an uphill plane, geared for slug. Plenty of strength at the point of impact. Landon Hardy (2029, Spring, Texas) had a strong showing for Scorpions Team Easton 2029. Went 4-11 with a double and homer, driving...

Stars Being Stars These are some of the more well-known names on the national landscape, playing across several big events in which they performed at the highest of levels. Their showings in West Palm were simply a continuation of what we've almost come to expect at this point from them!  Kolt Hampton (2030, Chandler, AZ) is a left-handed hitting infielder with present barrel speed and twitch in the turn. Turned around an upper 80s heater that plated two runs in the first inning of the quarterfinals and never looked back. Also got it done on the rubber punching out three and topping out at 86. The number one player in Arizona produced all week and took care of business defensively.  Landen Davis (2030, Beaufort, SC) showed up at the dish this event hitting .500 with four doubles and five RBIs. SBA Takes 14u Title Behind Offense

To say there were standouts all over the field for the 14u WWBA World Championship would be an understatement as the matchup of Team Elite 14u Scout and SBA Bolts National 14u saw two of the more loaded rosters going head-to-head with a title on the line. And after weather threw a giant wrench into pool play, both Sunday and Monday were nothing but sunshine and high intensity baseball leading into the final game of the event.  While the game ultimately ended via run rule after five in favor of SBA upon a 9 run inning, it was a tight contest up until that point with Team Elite carrying a 3-2 lead thru four innings.  Team Elite drew first blood as a Ross Logan walk quickly turned into the first run of the game following a well struck single by Cooper Ooten into left field who eventually came around to score following a double steal, scoring before the third out of the inning was...

Wildcatters Reign Supreme at 13u WWBA

Jheremy Brown
Article Image
After both the Best of the West and the Beast of the East wrapped up, a big conglomerate of high end talent and stacked teams descended upon West Palm for both the 13u and the 14u WWBA World Championships. While the weather threw a wrench into the plans early on and some adjustment was needed to ensure the event moved forward, it was nothing but sunshine and competitive baseball throughout Sunday and into the early morning Monday.  Kicking off with the 13u WWBA World Championship, the first thing to point out is the fact this was a wood bat tournament played on 60-90 fields and while the combo was a first for most, you wouldn't know it with their level of play throughout the weekend. In an unsurprising twist and a continuation of their 12u dominance, the 13u championship saw the #2 seeded Goldin Prospects lock horns with the top seeded Houston Wildcatters, aka the champion of the...

Carlo Rivero struck out the side in the final inning to secure a big quarterfinal win. Sat 87-89 & ball explodes out of the hand, CB & CH both dynamic go-to pitches as well. #WWBAWorlds @Florida_PG https://t.co/l8a4f1psyK — Perfect Game Youth (@PGYouthBB) October 19, 2026 2031 SS/RHP Carlo Rivero (Apopka, Fla.) debuted in the rankings as the top player in the country, and he had widened the gap by a good bit after the fall he had, capped off by an unreal showing in West Palm Beach. He hit almost .700 on the event with 7 of his 10 hits going for extra bases, while driving in 13, scoring 13 times himself, walking 8 times and no striking out in a single trip to the plate across 7 games. The blend of bat speed and pure strength, paired with his approach are that of someone who is much more mature, yet he’s doing it all at just 14 ½. He also jumped on the...
