Week 2 of the College Baseball season proved once again that the depth and balance of the sport has never been greater. Florida made the biggest statement of the weekend with their home sweep of Miami. The Gators’ intimidating starting rotation was on display as the Hurricanes mustered just two runs all weekend.

Texas Tech and Dallas Baptist enter the Top 25 for the first time this season. Texas Tech backed up a road split at Mississippi State with a perfect 5-0 week, including a mid-week win over New Mexico State and a four-game sweep over a very young California team. Dallas Baptist began their week with a Tuesday win at Rice and followed that up with home series win over Mountain West favorite New Mexico, including a dramatic walk-off win on Sunday.

Rice and Maryland come out of the rankings and both programs should be commended for scheduling very aggressively in the first two weeks of the season. Rice went 1-3 on the week and lost their home series to a very good Southeastern Louisiana program. Maryland was thumped three times at LSU and the Terps sit at 1-5 currently.

Sweeps have become extremely difficult to come by and only five teams in the Top 25 remain undefeated as mid-major programs continue to close the gap in college baseball. This week’s proof of that came in the form of UIC winning their series at Vanderbilt and Wright State finishing up 3-3 at Clemson and South Carolina.

Be sure to check out the Perfect Game College Player Database for detailed scouting reports based on first-hand observations from our scouts. Oregon's David Peterson and Tim Susnara, Utah's Jayson Rose and UC Irvine's Keston Hiura are among the players added from this weekend.

And don't forget to tune in to Perfect Game College Baseball tonight from 9-11 p.m. EST on SiriusXM College Sports Nation, channel 84. Perfect Game's Daron Sutton and Mike Rooney will wrap up the second weekend of the 2017 college baseball season while taking a look ahead to what should be an extremely competitive week three.
