Utah 3, Arizona State 1

So as to not bury the lead here, simply put, Jayson Rose was tremendous against Arizona State on Thursday night. He absolutely silenced the Sun Devil bats, and did so in very impressive fashion. He went eight innings, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out eight and walking three.

He's not a physically imposing presence, listed at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, but he's athletic and that athleticism shows in his delivery. There is some effort in his delivery, with a bit of head violence at release, but he's able to physically withstand the delivery for 100-plus pitches and repeat it relatively well, which is saying something given that he's not of the traditional size for a righthanded pitcher. He has plus arm speed, though there is a bit of a hook in the back of the arm circle, he accelerates out of it relatively cleanly and does a good job generating extension. His fastball worked 90-93 throughout the entirety of his outing, peaking at 94 a few times early on, and showing solid life to the arm side.
