No. 5 North Carolina 8, Georgia Tech 0

Perhaps the best adjective to use in an attempt to describe what North Carolina sophomore righthander J.B. Bukauskas
was Friday night is electric. And when you take into the fact that Bukauskas was originally a member of the 2015 high school graduating class prior to his reclassification, which means he should just be starting his freshman year, it makes what he did tonight all the more special.

Though not the biggest or physically imposing pitcher the Tar Heels have on their roster, listed at 6-foot, 198-pounds, the young righthander possesses the biggest stuff on the staff and with the physical strength he sports throughout his frame he’s able to carry his plus-stuff deep into an outing. Full of confidence from the moment he walked out of the third base dugout at 5:03 p.m., Bukauskas immediately went to work in the top of the first inning, making quick work of the Georgia Tech lineup attacking with his fastball with all but one pitch.

With a balanced and deliberate tempo to his delivery, complete with a high leg kick up past his belt, Bukauskas shows an extremely fast and short arm action coming through the back. Though there’s some effort to his release and some movement with his head he never lost sight of the target and pumped mid-90s fastball from the first to the eighth inning. Opening up by sitting in the 95-97 mph range, Bukauskas punched out the first two of his eleven batters, tying a career high, by simply overpowering them with his fastball while showing late cutting life located down to his glove side at 97 mph for good measure.
