Mason McGwire (2022, Irvine, Calif.) came out of the 'pen for the second time this week and was absolutely dominant. The Oklahoma commit uses his strong frame to produce an overpowering fastball that hitters struggle to handle. The offering sits 87-91 mph, topping out at 92 mph on Friday. It works well at the top of the zone with the ability to get whiffs often. It features heavy arm-side run that eats up right-handed hitters. Despite not using the offering much on Friday, McGwire pairs the heater with a sharp breaking ball that sits 75-77 mph with sharp, downward break. When thrown well it has bite that misses bats. It is an extremely impressive pitch mix that can rack up strikeouts and get hitters out on a consistent basis. 

Jose Vargas (2022, League City, Texas) is an impressive left-handed bat that has plenty of offensive tools that can produce for a lineup. He features a big, strong frame that moves well in the box and around the diamond. The swing contains above-average bat speed and an advanced approach that allows him to use the entire field with ease. It’s linear bat path leads to frequently hard hit balls. Along with an above-average hit tool, Vargas has the ability to drive the ball out of the ballpark. It plays mostly to the pull side but hints toward middle-of-the-order potential. Vargas has the potential to be a power guy that can hit for a high average. The uncommitted outfielder should be able to help a team at the next level.
