5-Orange vs 4-Red

4/16/2023

Benjamin Bernard (2027 SS, Cary, NC) proving there is some two-way ability in the profile, following up a solid performance on the mound yesterday with a solid piece through the RS to lead it off for his squad.

Luke Danser (2027 OF, Charlotte, NC) with one of the best defensive plays on the weekend, hitting top speed on a soft fly ball in shallow RF near the line while snagging it with a full extension grab.

Hudson Tuttle (2027 C, Kernersville, NC) continues to stay on the barrel this weekend, working a count in his favor and spitting on some decent offerings before singling up the middle.

Camden McGill (2027 OF, High Point, NC) split the LCF gap and turned on the jets for an inside the park HR, getting the barrel to a low heater and going with it the other way. One of the stronger kids here this weekend, posting ab/avg exit velos. The secondary LHP would also toe the rubber and run the FB up to 78/1800 RPM, striking out three over 2 IP and allowing just one hit.

Ramel Jones (2027 OF, Hedgesville, WV) collects a nice backside piece over the SS in the final frame. High energy player who is always giving his best effort on the diamond.

5-Orange vs 3-Black

4/16/2023

Grant Helms (2027 1B, Harrisburg, NC) had a decent piece to the opposite field for a nice knock, opening things up for his squad. Has shown ab/avg actions all weekend and has an athletic 5'11/145 frame to grow into. Athletic play at 1B to really get up and save an out.

Tyce Thompson (2027 C, Winterville, NC) continues the hot streak this weekend with an absolute bomb out to deep LF... got all of this thing and it wasn't a wall-scraper. Continues to impress, got his pitch middle/middle and simply didn't miss.

Caleb Lynn (2027 RHP, Garner, NC) isn't slowing down either, putting his fluid/connected left-handed stroke on display grabbing another LD knock. Lynn is wearing out the RCF grass this weekend. Booked it down the line and made a soft IF GB extremely close. Plus athlete.

Bryce Hochman (2027 C, Providence Forge, VA) put a good move on a fastball, getting the barrel all over a middle/middle offering and lining it over the 6 hole for a knock. He would find another solid barrel late, matching plane on a high fastball and using the RCF gap to his advantage.

Nathan Rice (2027 SS, Fuquayvarina, NC) ripped a scorching single back up the stripe to get the 3rd inning started.

Julius Pabon (2027 UT, Woodbridge, VA) has been creating competitive at-bats all weekend and got rewarded for it here, grabbing himself a good piece up the middle on a line. Moves really well on the paths, overall has good things to project on.

Camden Spangler (2027 SS, Roanoke, VA) got an inning on the mound to close it out and showed a loose arm with a clean/athletic delivery, running it up to 79-mph on the four seam and mixing in a mid 60's curve with developing spin. He also would collect a solid single to RCF in his last AB of the day.

4-Red vs 3-Black

4/16/2023

Hudson Tuttle (2027 C, Kernersville, NC) put a really short and direct stroke on display here, hammering a letter high heater deep down the PS line for a double. Crisp actions with a very simple swing that works well, has a projectable 5'10/145 athletic looking frame and gets the most out of his body. Would hop on the mound and worked strictly from the stretch, shorter arm action in the back with some looseness, getting the heater up to 79-mph that got some occasional arm-side run (2100 RPM) while mixing in a mid 60's curveball with developing spin. K'd 3 over 2 IP.

Tyce Thompson (2027 C, Winterville, NC) worked a count in his favor and showed some impressive plate coverage, going backside with a nice liner on a low/away heater. Physical frame for the age, moves well for a primary C stealing second with a very solid read on the pitcher.

Carter Hullett (2027 C, Brentwood, TN) toed the rubber and showed off a solid three-pitch mix in his start, as the strong primary C ran it up to 81 peppering the glove-side with comfort. He showed an ability to mix in a mid-60s curveball that hovered just north of 2k RPM that got some good depth when he got on top of it, and flashed a spin killing change (1130 RPM) to freeze a hitter on a strikeout. Hullett holds his velo/mix well out of the stretch and employs a short slide step to keep runners honest on the paths. K'd three over two IP with on hit allowed.

Caleb Lynn (2027 RHP, Garner, NC) worked a 3-0 count with some good takes before unloading on a really solid piece into RCF for a single. Very twitchy athlete, bunch of tools already in the shed for the class; 6.79 runner. Made a really good diving play out in right field to rob a single, full extension with a good jump on it.

Ryan Edwards (2027 RHP, Greenville, NC) cleared the bases with a deep LD triple over the LF's head... showing he can do it on both sides of the ball after yesterday's solid performance on the bump.

2-Grey vs 1-Navy

4/16/2023

Harrison Mears (2027 SS, Southport, NC) picked up where he left off yesterday, jumping all over a center-cut heater and lining it pull side over the left-fielder's head. Showed off the 7.05 speed, can really move well for the class as evident by his inside the park in yesterday's slate. Would beat out an infield single in his next AB. Showed solid actions out at shortstop (secondary position), bouncing around on his feet well and showing off the arm.

Colton Temple (2027 C, McDonald, PA) showed off some ability in the dirt with clean actions blocking up the baseball and nailing a would-be base stealer at third with a dot. Temple also found a barrel for a hustle double into LCF. Looked comfortable at third-base as well, handling the opportunities that came his way. Scorched a liner back up the middle late for a single.

Thomas Smith (2027 RHP, Concord, NC) worked 3 solid innings to open up, striking out three and working the fastball up to 81 and living well in the bottom half of the zone comfortably 75-77. Flashed developing feel for a curveball in the mid 60's. Good frame for the class that projects well moving forward, and he also picked up a solid barrel down the PS line on an outer half fastball for a double.

Harrison Corey (2027 SS, Winterville, NC) continues to really impress out here this weekend, showing clean actions in every aspect of the game. Really gets the most out of his 5'7/125 frame on the bump with a really quick arm stroke and idea up there, running the four seam fastball up to 77 with some success when elevated. Spinning slider with gyro traits and good late break in the upper 60s with 2200 RPM for strikes and really fooling hitters. Would grab a really solid barrel as well but robbed of a hit in the OF.

Colby Fesler (2027 SS, Broadway, VA) grabbed himself a really nice piece on a down and in heater, getting the barrel to a tough part of the zone with some extension to line a double down the third base line. He would steal second in the subsequent sequence, showing off some twitch in his game as Fesler is a definite athlete out there.

Hayden Potts (2027 SS, Mocksville, NC) has pieced together two solid at-bats today, going the other way in both after working the counts well to pick up a single and double... looked comfortable in the box yesterday as well working some competitive at-bats and making the opposing pitcher show everything he has in the arsenal to execute in the zone.

1 Navy vs. 2 Grey

4/15/2023

Aiden Coats (2027 RHP, Winterville, NC) threw three strong innings, working in the upper 80's consistently and topping out at 81 mph in the third inning.  His change up was his best secondary pitch and he also threw an upper 60's slider.  Coats also chipped in with a couple of opposite field base hits at the plate.

Grayson DeBerry (2027 SS, Matthews, NC) dominated during his two innings on the mound, consistently running a 75-78 mph fastball over the hands of hitters while striking out all six hitters he faced.  He also dropped in a couple of 65 mph curveballs with good shape and power.

Connor Branham (2027 RHP, Bristol, VA) dominated as well but in a totally different way.  The right hander doesn't have the strength yet to throw hard yet but did an incredible job of throwing strikes and getting quick outs.  In his three innings of scoreless work, Branham only threw 26 total pitches.

Devin Haynes (2028 RHP, Rockingham, NC) is a very projectable 7th grader with long arms and a loose and whippy mid to low 3/4's arm action that produced a running fastball up to 75 mph.  It's really easy to see Haynes improving by leaps and bounds as he physically matures.

Degan Williams (2027 1B, Beckley, WV) is a primary first baseman but has lots of potential as a left handed pitcher.  He worked in the 72-74 mph range with a very loose and easy arm action but his most interesting pitch was a big breaking 62 mph curveball that often had 2200+ rpm, a very high number for that relative velocity.

Harrison Corey (2027 SS, Winterville, NC) really stood out in infield drills and carried that over into the game, making a number of very solid plays both at shortstop and at third base.

Harrison Mears (2027 C, Southport, NC) was another player who replicated his drill work into the game.  He crushed some balls gap to gap in BP, then drove the ball hard up the right centerfield gap in the game and rounded the bases for an easy inside the park home run.

Caleb McLawhorn (2027 OF, Winterville, NC) was the other hitter who took advantage of Truist Park's deep alleys and fast turf with his own inside the park home run.

Clemson Watts (2027 1B, Hickory, NC) showed nice barrel control in lining a couple o hard hits, including a double.

Batting Practice Highlights

4/15/2023

Harrison Mears (2027 C, Southport, NC) has an usual swing that tomahawks the ball consistently in baseball terms but it really worked in both BP and in the game Saturday.  He drove the ball hard to both alleys and squared up the ball consistently.

Harrison Corey (2027 SS, Winterville, NC) still lacks some present strength but has a very short controlled high contact swing that he repeats very well.  The swing will work well in games, especially when he gets stronger.

Degan Williams (2027 1B, Beckley, WV) has a nice 6-0/155 build that projects very well and a smooth left handed swing that emphasizes hard left centerfield contact.  His next step will be learning to turn the barrel to take advantage of his growing leverage and strength.

Elijah Terry (2027 OF, Virginia Beach, VA) is another player who lacks present strength but has a very sound swing that he repeats very well.  He stays very balanced and squared up virtually every swing, most to the pull side.

Colton Temple (2027 C, McDonald, PA) has very good strength in his 5-9/170 build and creates nice left-handed bat speed with plenty of jump off the barrel.  He showed a flexible and balanced approach that enabled him to line the ball hard to all fields.

Caleb McLawhorn (2027 OF, Winterville, NC) is a solid all around athlete who creates good right handed bat speed and projects well physically.  He's got a chance to develop plus power as he fills in and gets stronger.

Grayson DeBerry (2027 SS, Matthews, NC) hits from a spread bent knee stance with a short and direct swing that uses his hand quickness and strength well.  The right handed hitter was able to drive the right centerfield gap a couple of times.

Colby Fesler (2027 SS, Broadway, VA) has good hitting mechanics and fast hands that give him consistent bat speed and the ability to drive the ball.

Caleb Lynn (2027 RHP, Garner, NC) is an outstanding all around athlete and creates big left handed bat speed with little effort.  It's a calm swing with very good looseness and extension and Lynn was able to hit some balls that reached the right centerfield fence.

Tyce Thompson (2027 C, Winterville, NC) has a long and loose athletic build and does a good of creating barrel whip and bat speed.  He stayed timed well with a simple rock back load and showed his power potential.

Holt Gaston (2027 3B, Arden, NC) has a very athletic 6-0/175 frame and uses that body well in shifting into contact and creating bat speed.  It's a line drive swing plane at present but there will be plenty of power there in the future.

Its pretty rare to see an 8th grader launch and over the fence BP home run in a pro ball park but that's what Carter Hullett (2027 C, Brentwood, TN) did near the end of his round.  His left-handed blast wasn't a fence scrapper, either.

Hudson Tuttle (2027 C, Kernersville, NC) has been very well coached on creating a swing with the plane and separation to lift the ball.  Once he's added some weight to his 5-10/145 frame, he's going to be hitting some bombs of his own.

Julius Pabon (2027 UT, Woodbridge, VA) was one of the twitchiest athletes at the field on Saturday and it showed in his right handed swing, which was very short and quick and produced very consistent hard mid field line drive contact.
