2023 Northern California Workout Showcase (Saturday)
Gavin Hooper is a 2024 3B/2B, UT with a 5-10 200 lb. large frame from Auburn, CA who attends Colfax. At the plate he sets up in a wide base, high hands and slight bat wrap. Uses a toe-tap trigger mechanism. Showed good hand/bat speed and intent in the swing. Employed an all-fields approach in his BP round. Lets the ball get deep allowing him to use the whole field. Squared the ball up consistently and produced some hard hit line-drives with backspin the gaps. Defensively Hooper profiles at third base. Uses proper foot/glove mechanics and showed the ability to pick out the short-hop. Made all the plays required. Has a developing accurate arm out of a 3/4 slot and can throw on the run. Clocked a 7.55 60-yard dash.
