2023 Mid-Atlantic Indoor Showcase (Saturday)
Connor Sweeney is a 2026 C/RHP, 1B with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from West Caldwell, NJ who attends James Caldwell. Medium, lean frame with a plenty of room and time to physically mature. Recorded a 8.17 second sixty-yard dash time. Primary catcher that received from a wider based stance with developing catch-and-throw skills. Gains some ground out of the crouch, displayed a fairly direct mid-line transfer and worked into a lower arm slot. Recorded arm strength up to 68 mph from behind the dish during drills. Will continue to improve with refinements mechanically and additional strength. Secondary right-handed pitcher that worked exclusively from the stretch in this look. Quick paced delivery with belt high leg lift and shorter stride length out to foot strike. Fastball worked in the low-70s for the majority of his outing and topped out at 74 mph from a short, compact three quarters arm slot. Took part in the first baseman portion of the defensive workout as well, where he showed some agility around the bag and accurate throws across the diamond. Recorded arm strength up to 72 mph during drills. Left-handed hitter that hits from an even based stance with tight hand set, a high back elbow and small stride into contact. Whole field approach with flatter, slightly elongated swing path and developing feel for the barrel. Displayed some compact hand speed and fairly consistent contact, will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments and additional strength. Excellent Student.
