643 Uses Big Sixth Inning For Win at 18u

ATLANTA, Georgia – There was fierce competition at East Cobb on Saturday morning between the undefeated 643 DP Cougars 17U Pralgo, who arrived hydrated and ready to play in the Georgia heat against Tennessee Bulldogs 17U, who gave them everything that they could handle.

The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, and completely stole the game in the last innings, securing a 10-2 win.



The final nail in the coffin came in the top of the sixth inning. Tulane commit Will Prigge started things with a single, quickly advanced to third on a Collin Strovinskas double down the line in left field, and Bradley Ihm’s single to right field scored him to push the score to 6-2.

The big blow came when Alex Karst turned around a 67 mph curveball and deposited it over the fence for a three-run home run, scoring both Strovinskas and Ihm, along with himself.

Outfielder Caden Rogers put the final touch on the five-run sixth. The LaGrange commit showcased his speed, hitting a triple to right field and scoring on a wild pitch to move the score to 10-2.

Karst, a Kennesaw State commit and the No. 2 first baseman in the state of Georgia, went 1-for-2 in yesterday’s game. he explained postgame that he started off shaky at the plate and struck out early, but like his teammates, he battled back and picked it up his next at bat, saw a curveball up at the end, and hit it out of the park.

“Everybody did something to help us win,” Karst explained after the game, “Everybody made plays, everybody hit, and we really played as a team.”

The talent and chemistry this team has on the field is what carried them through the last inning, and Head Coach and Director of Instruction Danny Pralgo says that all starts at practice.

“We practice a ton every week, we condition at the end of every game and every practice,” Pralgo explained in an interview after the game.

That conditioning really comes in handy on weekends like these at PG tournaments, especially when it's as warm as it has been in Atlanta.

Pralgo has reminded his players that the conditioning they do is for a reason.

“[PG tournaments] are different from the high school grind because sometimes [you] have to play 4, 5, 6, 7 games within a 48 hour period. So, if you don’t truly try to build your stamina up to be in shape for that, you won’t be able to close out games.”

Noah McMahon closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, throwing an 83 mph fastball on the mound, which broke batter's bats.
