Mark Branz is a 2019 SS with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Millstadt, IL who attends Gibault Catholic HS. Large frame with longer limbs and beginnings of strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Primary shortstop with smooth paced footwork while ranging for and surrounding the baseball. Funnels the baseball well and worked through exchange quickly. Released from an over top arm slot generating accurate carry to the bag at 79 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, balanced stance. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose hand path to baseball with a lifted barrel plane through extension. Flashed some feel for the barrel with present strength at contact. Look to created leverage at contact that produced loud carry to the middle of the field and pull side gap when squared. Also pitched displayed a clean arm action from a three-quarters slot. Fastball came out of hand well producing downhill tilt through the zone in the low 80's, topped at 83 miles per hour. Showed good feel for fastball and consistently filled the zone. Curveball had 11/5 shape with tighter spin and good depth in the low 70's. Good student as well.
