John Doty is a 2021 1B/RHP/3B with a 6-3 210 lb. frame from Urbandale, IA who attends Waukee. Outstanding athletic build, plenty of present strength with plenty of room for more. Right handed hitter, hits from a balanced start with a positive shift into contact, loose swing with good extension out front, will occasionally get too far out on his front side, has some pull juice in his bat when he stays back on the ball and trusts his hands, projects well as a hitter. 7.07 runner in the sixty, shows good athletic actions at first base defensive, soft hands with good lower half balance, looks like he could play some solid third base as well. Took a turn on the mound, works from the stretch with a short stride out front, compact arm action from a tight 3/4's arm slot. Fastball topped out at 82 mph with consistent big running action. Difficult arm slot to throw a curveball from, might work better with a slider. Has some ceiling as a right handed power hitter. Excellent student.
