Andrew Cates is a 2020 C/RHP/OF with a 6-1 225 lb. frame from Waco, TX who attends Midway. Ran a 7.98 second sixty-yard dash. Primary catcher with a physical frame that has present strength in the lower half. Starts from a lower, side straddle stance, showing softer hands and limited movement to receive. Gains ground toward second base, replacing the feet well and showcasing a quick exchange and transition to throw. Has a short and quick arm stroke, recording a 2.00 second pop time. Has some present arm strength with developing accuracy on throws up to 75 miles per hour. Has a wide stance with an inverted trigger from the right side of the plate. Keeps hand back in load, staying in the zone with the a line drive barrel plane. Has present bat speed, showing the ability to drive the ball when squared. Uses a middle of the field to pull side approach, flashing some power to and through the pull side gap in game action. Good student. Named to 2019 South Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
