Sam McCune is a 2019 LHP/1B with a 6-4 225 lb. frame from West Des Moines, IA who attends Valley HS. Big and tall athletic build, plenty of present strength with room for more. Big leg raise delivery on the mound, high 3/4's to over the top release point creates downhill angle, tends to fall off significantly to the third base side keeping him from getting over his front side, full and deep arm action in back. Fastball topped out at 80 mph, gets good fading action at times, Primary fastball pitcher, flashed a big downer curveball that was effective and that he could throw more, rare slider. Key to development on the mound is creating better direction to the plate for better fastball command. Left handed batter, open stance, also tends to be very early and open from his front side similar to his delivery on the mound, flashes strength on contact.
