Octavio Sanchez is a 2018 RHP/1B with a 6-0 195 lb. frame from Chula Vista, CA who attends Eastlake HS. Large from with a solid, athletic build. Simple leg lift delivery and drives downhill to the plate with good on line direction. Long arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot. Arm comes through quickly producing good arm whip. Creates good extension through finish with a fastball that topped at 84 mph. Fastball comes out of hand cleanly with good life down in the zone. Curveball has 12/5 shape with some spin and good depth, flashed plus depth at times. Commands to zone well with both pitches working to all quadrants of the strike zone. Started showing some cutting actions with fastball in second inning of work. Right handed hitter with a spread, straight stance and high back elbow set. Compact, direct path to contact with leverage through extension. Has good rhythm and repeats swing consistently. Shows present bat speed through the zone the produces solid backspin to the gaps. Swing projects well with present barrel skills and power. Also worked out defensively form the infield and first base. Surrounds the baseball with smooth footwork from the infield. Smooth paced, clean glove to hand exchanges while working through transition. Throws across from a compact three-quarters slot. Throws created carry with accuracy across. From first base shows the same athletic footwork while moving to both sides and surrounding. Athletic actions while working around the bag and setting up the receive. Soft hands while receiving with ability to pick balls throw down. Solid two way prospect. Tools will continue to develop with matuirty and repetition. Good student. Named to 2016 Sunshine West Top Prospect List.
