Chase VanDerGinst is a 2019 C/OF with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Rock Island, IL who attends Alleman HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 7.17 sixty yard dash. Primary catcher with low, slightly off set stance while setting up to receive. Gains ground towards the baseball while working out of crouch with fundamental footwork. Extended, low glove to hand exchanges while working through transfer. Releases from a compact three-quarters arm slot that produced solid carry to the bag. Topped at 74 mph with a best workout pop time of 2.08. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing smooth paced, fluid footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling baseball off to side with efficient exchanges. Topped at 82 mph while generating accurate, on line carry to the bag. Left handed hitter with a spread, straight stance and leg lift trigger. Lower half shows linear actions creating some shift into contact. Cleared hips well while launching to contact on compact, direct path. Barrel came through with some fluidity on a naturally lifted plane through extension. Primarily used a mid-field approach but showed the hand and barrel skills to work the ball the other way as well. Flashed good pop off the barrel with jump to the gaps when on time and squared. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Good student as well.
