Matthew Russo is a 2021 3B/1B with a 6-3 225 lb. frame from Madisonville, LA who attends The Saint Pauls School Sr Boys. Large, broad shouldered build with present strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 7.54 60-yard dash. Listed as a primary third baseman but only worked out at first base in this look, fields the ball out front with some bend at waist, hands work at the ball out front, shows accuracy on throws with carry out of hand. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box; has timing components to swing but shows quickness to hands, long path through the zone. Shows raw juice at point of contact and projects with additional extension out front, shows strength in hands and can turn on the ball, connected for a long home run in live action to pull side. Can work to all fields, occasionally gets mistimed and inside the ball, shows impact off the barrel when squared. Very good student. Verbal commitment to Southern Mississippi.
