Carson Epp is a 2018 RHP/MIF with a 5-9 150 lb. frame from Grunthal, MB who attends Holy Trinity Academy. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects for additional size with strength. Primary right handed pitcher with an off set start and short side step to leg lift delivery. Stays fairly tall on back side at gather and utilize lower half well with drop and drop actions. Front side lands in line with the plate and carries momentum well through finish. Compact arm circle back at separation and releases from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball hand solid downward angle to the plate with occasional run, topped at 81 mph. Curveball has proper shape with good sweeping action in the low 70's. Flashed a straight changeup with good arm speed in the mid 70's. Consistently filled the strike zone with developing command when spotting to each edge of the plate. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing smooth, athletic footwork while surrounding the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling the baseball with fluid exchanges while working through transfer. Flashed good first step angles when moving to each side with developing ranged. Topped at 80 mph across the infield generating some carry to the bag with accuracy. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance. Lower half launches with linear actions creating some shift into contact. Compact, direct hand path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Stays balanced throughout with a mid-field approach that generated consistent, line drive contact between the gaps. Flashed hand quickness and bat speed through the zone that produced better jump off the barrel as the round continued. Tools with improved with continued physical developing. Good student.
