2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Weiss is a 6-2 third baseman from New Jersey with very good present strength. He generates serious bat speed and shows impressive raw power, especially to right centerfield. Weiss has a bit of an all or nothing approach, with some back side collapse and an uppercut swing and could improve on some of his hitting fundamentals, but the raw tools are there for him to become an impact type hitter. Weiss struggled a bit in games against the soft tossers but smashed a triple (90 mph off the bat) off one of the top prospect pitchers at the event. Defensively, Weiss has a strong arm at third base. Weiss also had a short and successful trip to the mound, retiring 6 straight hitters, 4 on strike outs. He has a short, quick arm stroke and gets good running action on a 79-81 mph fastball. His 71-74 mph slider is a good pitch at this level as well.
