LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2005 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Gage Ecklund is a 2009 C from Marian Central Catholic HS in Richmond, IL, with a 5'8'', 180 lb. frame. He was one of the youngest players at the showcase. Ecklund has a strong lower half for his age and a less developed upper half. He threw 67 mph during drills from behind the plate with a best pop time of 2.40. His throws were accurate but his release was multi-part and deliberate. More experience will speed things up for Ecklund. Offensively, Ecklund sets up with a very wide base and has good blance through contact. He has an aggressive upper cut swing and generates very good bat speed for his age. He lofted a couple very well with wood in batting practice and you don't see that from a 14 year old very often. It looked like he had a feel for the strike zone and knew what pitches he could drive. He has nice hitting skills with strength and a mature approach and looks like a dangerous hitter. He'll hit more than his share of balls out of the park over the next few years.
