Eric Nordstrom is a 2007 RHP/1B with a 6'2'', 200 lb. frame from West Des Moines IA, who attends Valley HS. He has a big frame and a good, strong build. Nordstrom has unusual pitching mechanics; he has a very exaggerated high and long take back with both arms that one Perfect Game scout characterized as assuming the "Swan" position. While this doesn't keep Nordstrom's arm from coming through cleanly, the time it takes to do it does mean that Nordstrom does drift significantly forward during his delivery, leaving his arm behind. He throws from a high 3/4's release point over a hard front side. Norstrom's fastball was 75-77 mph and was mostly straight. His off-speed pitch was a 64 mph curveball that had good spin and a sweeping 10/4 type of break. We didn't see a change up. Nordstrom also showed some raw power as a right handed hitting first baseman. He hits out of a wide stance with an upper cut swing and looks to turn and pull the ball. He is an outstanding student.
