Newell is a young player who has plenty of growing to do. His tools did not yet match up to the upper-classmen but he was not short on energy and effort. His best tool is his speed. He ran a laser timed 6.91 and his feet moved fast in the outfield. As he learns to take better paths and becomes more comfortable tracking fly balls he could end up with some good defensive ability. Swinging the wood at his age was new to him and making that adjustment at this time was difficult. His lower half shows some life and he can get moving in a hurry out of the box. He is interested in UCLA and will have 2 years of training to achieve his goals. He is only a sophomore.
