Pre-Draft Batting Practice Highlights

Calvin Harris (2020 C, Peosta, IA) The 2020 grad showed a balanced approach with a clean, fluid line drive barrel plane. The University of Mississippi commit shows the hand and barrel skills to manipulate the bat head and work to all fields. 

Brayden Frazier (2018 MIF, Cedar Rapids, IA) The University of Iowa commit showed good leverage at the plate consistently driving the baseball to each gap. Frazier showed good balance in his swing pair with strength that should produce a powerful approach with the ability to hit for average as well. 

Drake Frazier (2019 OF, Cedar Rapids, IA) The South Dakota State commit displayed projectable raw power paired with a naturally leveraged barrel plane. The 2019 grad consistently swung with intent looking to drive the baseball with authority to all fields throughout batting practice. 

Levi Usher (2018 OF, Fairfax, IA) The Perfect Game All-American utilized a smooth, fluid swing path with natural leverage at contact. When squared, Usher shows the present strength and bat speed to drive the ball through each gap with ease. 

Nolan Arp (2015 2B, Cedar Rapids, IA) Arp, a 2015 grad, employed a loose, fluid swing path that generated sharp line drives to all fields. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native threw his bat head to contact well with a knack for finding the barrel. 

Matt Erickson (2018 C, Kailua, HI) Erickson utilized his lower half well while shifting into the baseball. The Santa Clara commit displayed good feel for the barrel with the ability to work to all fields with ease. Erickson also showed good barrel whip that produced hard, loud contact to pull side when turning the barrel to contact. 

Casey Sole (2019 C, Cedar Falls, IA) Sole displayed natural bat speed at the plate with the ability to turn the barrel aggressively. Ball consistently jumped off the barrel with authority to pull side throughout batting practice. 

Colton Talton (2017 1B, Pueblo, CO) The Colorado native utilized a very quick, compact barrel plane that generated good bat speed through extension. Talton consistently produced sharp contact throughout batting practice and flashed the ability to create tight back spin to the gaps. Hit a home run to deep left center field to close his batting practice round.

Chase Krogman (2019 OF, Dardenne Prairie, MO) Krogman utilized a repeatable, linear barrel path throughout batting practice. The Missouri State commit showed the balance to work the ball the other way and turn the barrel and work to the pull gap with authority. 

Luke Ira (2018 SS, Iowa City, IA) The South Dakota State commit utilized a loose, fluid swing path that created sharp contact to all fields. Ira repeats his swing very well and showed the ability to barrel the baseball multiple parts of the zone. 

Garrett Ries (2019 C, Robins, IA) Ries, a 2019 grad displayed good bat speed an a naturally leverage barrel path. Ries consistently produced tight back spin off the barrel that generated good carry to the pull side gap. 

Kyler Fedko (2018 SS, Gibsonia, PA) Fedko shows advanced swing actions at the plate with ability to hit with power and balance. The UCONN commit controlled the barrel very well throughout the hitting zone, driving the ball to all fields with authority. 

Zach Smith (2018 1B, Jeffersonton, VA) The Virginia native utilized a direct, slightly lifted barrel plane throughout batting practice. Smith generated good strength at contact driving the baseball through each gap consistently. 
 
Luke Stephenson (2018 C, Algonac, MI) Stephenson showed rotational actions to contact paired with compact hand path. The 2018 catcher consistently produced sharp line drive contact while employing a gap to gap approach.

Randon Daumann (2018 RHP, Columbus, WI) The Ohio commit utilized  a clean, repeatable delivery while sitting in the upper 80's, topped at 89 miles per hour. The Columbus, WI native generated good run to arm side with creating steep downhill plane through the strike zone. The 2018 grad changed speeds with an 11/5 curveball that flashed hard depth. 

Tristin Lively (2018 RHP, Las Cruces, NM) The New Mexico commit flashed excellent arm speed for his 6-foot, 187-pound frame topping at 92 miles per hour. Lively consistently pounded the strike zone early with his fastball before changing speeds with a sharp sweeping slider and sinking change up.  The 2018 grad worked two scoreless innings while striking out four batters.

Nic McCay (2018 RHP, Carlisle, IA) McCay, a South Dakota State commit, created good downhill plane throughout the zone from a high three-quarters arm slot. The 2018 grad shows a heavy fastball that jumps on hitters well in the upper 80's, topped at 89 miles per hour. McCay flashes very tight 12/6 spin with his breaking ball that shows good promise as a swing and miss pitch. 

Tyler Lewis (2018 RHP, West Des Moines, IA) The 6-foot-4, 235-pound right hander showed very good command of his fastball today in the bottom of the zone. Lewis consistently sat in the low 90's, topping at 93 miles per hour. The 2018 consistently missed barrels while inducing weak contact and flashed the feel to drop breaking ball on the back foot of left handed hitters. Lewis worked two no hit innings while striking out three batters. 

Steven Colon (2018 RHP, Nokomis, FL) Colon utilizes a high energy release that created some heaviness with a fastball offering that topped at 89 miles per hour. The uncommitted right handed pitcher looked to work ahead early in counts with fastball before looking to change speeds with an 11/5 curveball in the mid 70's. Colon showed good feel for the curveball with the ability to located down in the zone while working in the lower velocity band. 

Brant Brown (2018 RHP, Venice, FL) The 6-foot-5, right handed pitcher showed good feel for his fastball and was able to consistently worked underneath hitters hands, topped at 88 miles per hour. Brown, a St. John's River CC commit worked two innings while allowing two hits and striking out three batters. 

Connor Van Scoyoc (2018 RHP, Cedar Rapids, IA) The ASU commit displayed very smooth, polished mechanics throughout his two innings of work. Van Scoyoc showed very good command of his fastball topping at 92 miles per hour. The 2018 grad flashed advanced feel for this curveball offering that generated very good depth to the bottom of the zone. Van Scoyoc threw two no hit innings while striking out four. 

Jacob Sylvester (2014 RHP, Olathe, KS) The 6-foot-6, Kansas native utilized a loose three-quarters arm slot that produced good running action through the zone in the low 90's, topped at 92 miles per hour. Sylvester primarily looked to challenge hitters with his fastball offering, but also showed solid feel for a 10/4 slider that induced weak ground ball contact. The 2014 grad worked two innings while allowing one hit and struck out two batters. 

Clayton Nettleton (2018 RHP, Davenport, IA) The University of Iowa commit was electric on the mound featuring a fastball that ran up to 93 miles per hour. Nettleton shows a highly repeatable, smooth delivery. Consistently changed speeds with a tight 11/5 CB and late diving change up. The 2018 grad worked two perfect innings while striking out five of six batters faced. 

Jacob Kush (2018 RHP, Guelph, ON) Kush generated very good arm speed through extension for his 5-foot-10 frame. The Canadian native topped at 91 miles per hour flashing heavy run to arm side. Kush also showed a very deceptive breaking ball due to his ability to match arm speed and arm slot at release. The Northwest Florida State College commit worked two perfect innings while striking out three batters. 

Blaine Gillim (2018 LHP, Hartford, KY) Gillim utilized an up tempo delivery while hiding the baseball well at release. The Santa Fe College commit's fastball jumped on hitters well topping at 90 miles per hour. Gillim consistently kept hitters off balance with his breaking ball offering. The left hander was able to repeat his arm speed and tempo with delivery creating a lot of deception to hitters. The 2018 grad worked one inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. 

Andrew Irvine (2018 RHP, Clive, IA) The University of Iowa commit was impressive while on the mound today. Irvine shows an easy, repeatable arm action that generated good life through the zone with a fastball that topped at 88 miles per hour. Irvine showed a very polished changeup that he was able to create both run and cut depending on location. The 2018 grad worked two no hit innings while striking out three. 

Nolan Arp (2015 2B, Cedar Rapids, IA) Arp, a 2015 grad, utilized a balanced approach and showed good feel for the barrel. Arp utilized a mid-field, line drive approach that produced two singles in game action. 

Andrue Henry (2020 1B, Dubuque, IA) Henry held his own at the plate today turning on an 87 mile per hour fastball located inner half down the left field line for a double. Henry, an uncommitted prospect shows very projectable tools at the plate with solid raw power. 

Luke Ira (2018 SS, Iowa City, IA) The South Dakota State commit collected two hits in the game utilizing a simple, fluid line drive barrel plane. Ira shows the ability to control the barrel throughout the zone that allows for a high contact approach. 

Ryan Humeniuk (2016 OF, Stonewall, MB) Singled twice in four at-bats while picking up two runs batted in. The 2016 grad utilizes a naturally lifted barrel plane through extension that generates good back spin off the barrel when squared.
