Hitting Zone Jumped out to an early 7-4 lead, but the Richmond Braves 2015 National were able to come back and force a tie, with the final score being 8-8.
The Braves received strong performances from Derek Horton (2015, Liberty Christian, Forest, VA) and Stevie Mangrum (2015, Charlottesville, VA). Horton was 2-4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored, while Mangrum was 2-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Zachary Forsyth (2015, Bethel Park, PA) went 1-3 with a walk, two RBI and a stolen base, and Caleb Setliff (2015, St. Christopher's, Richmond, VA) also had two RBI, going 1-3 on the day.
Hitting Zone was paced at the plate by Kenny Overfelt (2015, Mount Airy, NC), who went 3-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. He also showed great speed with a stolen base. Daniel Brinegar (2015, Elkin, NC) was also clutch, going 2-4 with a run scored.
Tanner Edwards (2016, Reagan, NC) showed off his power potential with a two run home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning. He has a short, compact swing and he is a patient hitter.
Lane Snow (2015, Davie County, NC) secured the tie for Hitting Zone, going the final 1.2 innings on the mound without allowing a run. He struck out a batter and surrenedered only one hit. Reed Cooper (2015, William Byrd, Vinton, VA) did the same for the Braves, throwing a perfect final inning to ensure the tie. He struck out two of the three batters that he faced.
Aaron Kurz (2014, James River, N. Chesterfield, VA) showed off a powerful arm on the mound for the Braves, getting his fastball up to 83 MPH. He has the ability to pitch out of trouble and he has sound mechanics.
