C Ronnie Healy (2013 Jupiter, FL) went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run that ultimately helped the Palm Beach Select to a 4-3 win over Team Elite Friday morning. After a fifth-inning solo shot by Elite lead-off hitter Tyler Gibson (2011 Macon, GA) put Select at a 3-2 disadvantage, Healy stepped to the plate and blasted a 90-mph fastball over the right-field fence.
Healy showed good opposite-field contact, power potential, good bat speed, a smooth swing, and lift. On defense, he showed quick feet, a quick transfer and good blocking abilities. He registered a 1.93 game pop as well.
CF Jonathan Crespo (2011 Jupiter, FL) also hit well for Palm Beach, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Crespo covers a lot of ground in the outfield and showed nice leadership skills as well. On offense, he has a smooth swing and good bat speed with one hit registering 89 mph off the bat.
Several pitchers also showcased their talents, including Team Elite RHP Clate Schmidt (2012 Acworth, GA) who picked up the tough-luck loss but topped out at 92 mph and showed good arm-side run on his fastball, a tight 80-mph slider with 10-2 spin, and an in-line delivery with solid mechanics.
RHP Jake Burnette (2011 Buford, GA) pitched five innings, touching 88 and showing some arm-side run on his 80-mph change up, a nice pick-off move to first, and an in-line, balanced delivery.
Palm Beach RHP Mike Nessel (2011 Stuart, FL) and RHP Victor Gonzalez (2012 Jupiter, FL) both hit 86. Nessel flashed above-average arm speed, nice movement on the inside part of the plate, and a 79-mph slider with good late break and 10-4 spin. Gonzalez had above-average break on his 76-mph curve and some sink on his 78-mph change up.
