Marietta, Ga. — The Marucci Broncos beat the Home Plate Chilidawgs, 11-1, Sunday afternoon to take the first-ever Perfect Game/East Cobb Invitational tournament trophy.

Broncos right fielder Austin Southall won the tournament MVP award after going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple in the title game. shortstop Gabe Woods also made a case for himself, going 2-for-4 with a single and a grand slam as Marucci's No. 2 hitter.

Marietta, Ga. — RHP Joshua Burris (2010 Scottlandville HS, La.) pitched a five-inning, one-hit shutout Sunday morning to give the Marucci Broncos a 9-0 win over the Upstate Mavericks Black.

Burris topped out at 90 mph and struck out four, showing late movement on his fastball and good arm speed. He also attacked hitters and flashed a good pick-off move to first base.

Burris went 2-for-3 at the plate as well, hitting a lead-off double in the top of the second and a single to lead the Broncos offensively.

Marietta, Ga. — Home Plate Chilidawgs RHPs Kevin Werner (2011 East Coweta HS, Ga.) and Aaron Warren (2010 Sandy Creek HS, Ga.) closed out the last four innings of a 3-2 win over the East Cobb Braves 17U Sunday morning at the East Cobb Complex.

Werner pitched three scoreless innings, topping out at 86 mph. Warren finished the seventh inning, allowing one hit and topping out at 89.

Home Plate will play the winner of the 11 a.m. game between the Upstate Mavericks and the Marucci Broncos in the championship at 2 p.m.

Marietta, Ga. — Here are a few noteworthy pitchers who created some buzz in the championship quarterfinal games:


• Team Georgia RHP Reggie McClain (2011 Northview HS, Ga.) hit 90 mph Saturday at the East Cobb Complex in a 4-1 loss to the Home Plate Chilidawgs. In five innings, he struck out six and threw primarily fastballs, according to his scout notes,

• Dirtbags RHP Benton Moss (2011 Rocky Mountain HS, N.C.) topped out at 90 mph and sat between 86-89 in a 1-0 loss to the East Cobb Braves 17U Saturday night. According to his scout notes, Moss showed a smooth, easy delivery and good mechanics. He pitch seven innings, allowing one run on four hits.

• Marucci Broncos RHPs Bryton Trepagnier (2010 East St. John HS, La.) and Austin Southall (2010 University HS, La.) both topped out at 90 mph Saturday night in a 10-5 win over the FTB Black Racers. Trepagnier showed a live arm and good arm-side run in three innings of relief.

Marietta, Ga. — Upstate Mavericks RHPs Shawn McCain (2010 Greenbrier HS, Ga.) and Tyler Wilson (2010 Gaffney HS, S.C.) led the charge in a 3-1 quarterfinals win over the Tennessee Twisters at the East Cobb Complex.

McCain topped out at 87 mph and allowed one run on two hits through six innings while striking out seven. Wilson hit 88 and closed out the final inning with two strike outs.

Marietta, Ga. — Team Alabama RHP Jackson Stephens (2012 Oxford HS, Ala.) and East Cobb Braves 17U RHP Barrett O'Neil (2011 Dexter Schoo, Mass.) both hit 88 mph Saturday afternoon at Kell High School.

O'Neil pitched 4 2/3 innings of a 9-2 win, allowing two runs on six hits. According to his scout notes, he showed good arm-side run and sharp bit o his 74-mph curve.

Stephens, meanwhile, showed good presence on the mound and nice tailing action and arm-side run on his fastball.

Braves RHP Eric Eck (2010 Buford HS, Ga.) also topped out at 87 and showed a tight, sweeping 78-mph slider.

Marietta, Ga. — East Cobb Indians RHP Brandon Barker (2010 Etowah HS, Ga.) topped out at 87 mph Saturday morning at Dominion Christian High School, pitching four innings in an 8-1 win over the Georgia Tiger.

According to his scout notes, Barker located his off-speed pitches well, worked down in the zone, and showed a sharp 76-mph curve. He allowed one hit through four shutout innings and struck out seven.

Marietta, Ga. — RHP Dimitri Kourtis (2011 Alpharetta HS, Ga.) and RHP Eric Nyquist (2011 Alpharetta HS, Ga.) joined forces Saturday afternoon to lift Team Georgia to a 3-2 win over Marucci Elite at the East Cobb Complex.

Through 3 1/3 innings, Kourtis allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out four, and topped out at 88 mph. Nyquist allowed just two hits and struck out six through 2 2/3 innings and topped out at 89.

Kourtis also "challenged hitters" and had a good two-seam fastball that showed run and drop.

At the plate, Alex Close (2011 Milton HS, Ga.) went 3-for-3 with three singles, showing "good bat speed" and an ability to hit to all fields and stay back on off-speed pitches.

Marucci second baseman Connor Castellano (2011 Evangel Christian HS, La.) also went 3-for-3 with a single and two doubles, hitting one the opposite way to left field.

Marietta, Ga. — Dirtbags RHP Luis Paula (2011 Northeast Guilford HS, N.C.), LHP George Carter (2011 Northeast Guilford HS, N.C.), and RHP Dylan Dickens (2011 Person HS, N.C.) teamed up for a seven-inning, two-hit shutout Saturday afternoon against TGBA at the East Cobb Complex.

Paula, who went five innings and struck out nine, topped out at 89 mph and sat between 86-88. According to his scout notes, he mixed his pitches well, showed good mechanics, and flashed a sharp breaking 78-mph curve.

Meanwhile, Dickens topped out at 85 mph and struck out one in one inning of relief.

Marietta, Ga. — Upstate Mavericks LHP Kevin Connell (2011 Daniel Boone HS, Tenn.) tossed a seven-inning, two-hit shutout Saturday afternoon against the Alabama Heat, topping out at 87 mph in the process.

Connell is a 6-2, 185-pound pitcher and first baseman. In the 7-0 win, he struck out seven and showed good mechanics, good arm speed, and good demeanor on the mound.

Alabama RHP Alex Milazzo (2010 Vestavia Hills HS, Ala.) and RHP Steven Sanders (2010 Vestavia Hills HS, Ala.) also put their arms on display. Milazzo topped out at 89 and sat between 88-86, while Sanders hit 84 and sat between 83-81.

Marietta, Ga. — LHP Kyle Carter (2012 Columbus HS, Ga.) pitched six innings of shutout ball Saturday morning to help the East Cobb Astros to a 4-1 win over Batter's Box Baseball at the East Cobb Complex.

Carter topped out at 88 mph and allowed just three hits. According to his scouting notes, he stayed calm on the mound, showed good sink on his fastball, and flashed a tight 70-mph curve with good break. He also attacked hitters with his fastball and threw his curve and change-up for strikes.

Meanwhile, RHP David Sosebee (2011 White County HS, Ga.) closed in the final inning, touching 89 mph. Sosebee showed good run on his fastball and quick arm speed.

Marietta, Ga. — RHP Alex Facundas (2010 Catholic HS, La.) topped out at 90 mph Saturday morning at the East Cobb Complex, helping the Marucci Broncos to a 7-5 win over the Central Alabama Titans.

Through just 1 1/3 innings, Facundas allowed four runs on two hits. He struck out three and showed arm-side run on his fastball. He also flashed a 77-81-mph hammer curve that had hard, late break, according to his scouting notes.

Titans RHP Cameron Carleton (2011 Dadeville HS, Ala.) also threw serious heat, topping out at 89 mph and sitting between 86-88. Carleton showed good tempo, good lower body strength, a loose arm, and very good arm action.

Marietta, Ga. — FTB Mizuno Black Racers LHP Brandon Bixler (2010 Hagerty HS, Fla.) topped out at 87 mph and sat between 84-86 in a 3-1 win over the East Cobb Braves Saturday morning at the East Cobb Complex.

Bixler allowed one run on four hits and struck out four through 4 1/3 innings. He showed nice sharp, late break on his 76 mph curve, good mechanics, and a consistent motion, according to his scout notes. He also mixed up his pitches well.

FTB catcher Jason Hollard (2010 Freedom HS, Fla.) led the Black Racers at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. Hollard had good contact and "knew his strike zone."

Cochran-Gill faced just three batters over the minimum, struck out six and allowed two walks. According to his scout notes, he showed good run on his fastball and located well.

Marietta, Ga. — Dirtbags RHP Logan Jernigan (2011 South Johnston HS, N.C.) topped out at 87 mph Friday afternoon, pitching the first four innings of a 9-3 win over the Marucci Royals. Allowing two runs on four hits, he also struck out seven.

According to his scout notes, Jernigan showed good arm-side run on his fastball, good command, and downward bite on his 77-mph slider.

Marucci RHP Chase Williamson (2011 UMS-Wright, Ala.) also pitched well, topping out at 86 mph. According to his scout notes, Williamson has excellent movement on his change-up and a deceptively jerky delivery.

Marietta, Ga. — RHP Jordan Scott (2010 Freedom HS, Fla.) topped out at 88 mph and pitched 3 1/3 innings in a 10-3 win for the FTB Mizuno Black Racers Friday morning at Kell High School.

Scott showed good arm-side run on his fastball, which sat between 83-88. He also had some tilt on his 79-mph slider, according to his scout notes.

Scott did give up a lead-off home run in the top of the sixth, hit by Hoover Baseball Club pitcher Patrick Conway (2012 Hoover HS, Ala.) who went 1-for-1.

Marietta, Ga. — The East Cobb Indians won an 11-9 slugfest Friday morning against the Alabama Heat at Kell High School.

Parker Madden (2011 Kell HS, Ga.) went 3-for-4 and showed aggressiveness on the base paths, swiping two bags. At the plate, Madden also had quick hands and decent pop, hitting 89 mph off the bat, according to his scout notes.

Coleman Greene (2011 George County HS, Ga.) recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with a RBI double and a triple. Greene displayed strong wrists and good leverage and ran well for his size, according to his scout notes.

Wilson showed good arm-side run and a fast 75-mph curve, according to his scout notes. In one inning of relief, he allowed no hits and stuck out two.

Upstate LHP David Leeth (2010 Hartsville HS, S.C.) also threw well, allowing one run on one hit and striking out eight through four innings. Leeth topped out at 86 mph and sat between 82-85.

Shortstop Tyler Garner (2011 Boyd Buchannan HS, Tenn.) led the Twisters offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double. Left fielder Michael Hargrove (2011 Polk County HS, Tenn.) also his a two-RBI double in the top of the fifth to cap his 1-for-2 effort.

Through four innings, Picciola allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six. According to his scout notes, his 69-mph curve flashed some 12-6 dive.

Higginbotham pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out three. He sat between 85-88 and showed a fluid deliver and a solid tempo on the mound.

Meanwhile, Stuckey pitched a five-inning one-hitter and struck out six. He sat between 86-88 and "got on hitters quickly."

Offensively, Homeplate center fielder Andrew Adams (2011 Woodward Academy, Ga.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a stolen base, flashing his solid swing.

According to his scout notes, Marincov has a "taller, medium build" at 6-3 200 pounds and has a "rotational swing."

Through four innings, he allowed one run on three hits and struck out three. According to his scout notes, Spencer showed good movement on his fastball and a nasty break on his curve.

Twisters third baseman Brackton Smith (2011 McMinn County HS, Tenn.) impressed both at the plate and on the field, going 2-for-2 with a RBI single and a two-run home run. Smith "turned on the inside pitch well" and "has some good power." He also "plays third very well" and is a "good ball player."

Batter's Box Baseball shortstop Justin Klug (2011 Houston HS, Tenn.) also "stayed back well" at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Klug also showed a "nice glove" and a "good arm" on the field.

Marietta, Ga. — Alabama Heat RHP Jake Hester (2011 Thompson HS, Ala.) sat between 83 and 86 mph Thursday afternoon against Team Georgia at Walton High School.

Through three innings, Hester allowed just one hit and struck out seven. According to his scout notes, the 6-2, 215-pound righty showed good movement on his fastball, good mechanics, and very good command. His mound presence also impressed.

At the plate, Trent Waddell (2011 Northridge HS, Ala.) displayed "raw power" and "hit the ball hard," going 1-for-2 with a RBI double and a walk. On the field, Waddell had "a very strong arm" and "covered ground well."

LHP Jarred Brown (2011 Salem HS, Ga.) did Werner one better, reaching 87 mph and sitting between 80-86. RHP Aaron Warren (2010 Sandy Creek HS, Ga.) also topped out at 86 mph in his one inning in relief.

Farmer, who started and allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six through four innings, topped out at 84 mph. Wilson, however, topped out at 92 mph during his one inning of relief where he struck out the side.

Offensively, Mavericks third baseman Alex Abrams (2010 Bishop England HS, S.C.) went a perfect 2-for-2 with a RBI single and a double, and second baseman Taylor Hollifield (2010 Boiling Springs HS, S.C.) went 1-for-1 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and four RBI. Three Bronco hitters recorded multi-hit games, including right fielder Austin Southall (2010 University HS, La.) who went 2-for-3 with a RBI double and a solo home run. Third baseman Kaleb Barlow (2010 Jackson Prep, Miss.) also went 2-for-3 with two singles and a RBI, and shortstop Gabe Woods (2010 Oak Forest HS, La.) went 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double and a single.

For Excel, Mathew Goodson (2012 Oxford HS, Ala.) homerd, and Ben Seabrook (2011 Madison Academy, Ala.) went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles.

Allowing two runs while striking out 13, Simpson also topped out at 90 mph and sat between 85-87. According to his scout notes, the 6-7, 220-pound pitcher and first baseman possesses a huge build, works quick, and flashed a "great" 75-mph curve.

Marietta, Ga. — TGBA rallied to score 12 runs in the seventh inning and capture a 14-4 win over the Marucci Royals on Field No. 3 on at the East Cobb Complex Thursday morning.

As a result, several TGBA hitters recorded multi-hit games. John Lamay (2012 Greater Atlanta Christian HS, Ga.) went 2-for-5  with a single and three-RBI double. Justin Reichling (2012 Lambert HS, Ga.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. And Danny Bermudez (2012 North Forsth HS, Ga.) went 4-for-5 with four singles and two runs scored.

Three Royals hitters also managed multi-hit games, including catcher Zach Stolzfus and shortstop Nick Gilbert, who both went 2-for-3. Meanwhile third baseman Windham Jackson (2011 Jackson HS, Ala.) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Jackson, a RHP who came in as a closer in the seventh, also topped out at 88 mph and sat between 85-87.

Marietta, Ga. — The Central Alabama Titans scored five runs in the bottom of the first to effectively down the East Cobb Angels, 5-3, Thursday morning on Field No. 2 at the East Cobb Complex.

Titan starting pitcher Cole Limbaugh (2011 Childersburg HS, Ala.) topped out at 88 mph and allowed one run on five hits through three innings. Limbaugh also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a two-RBI double.

Meanwhile, Central Alabama closer Cameron Carleton (2011 Dadeville HS, Ala.) hit 90 mph during his one inning on the mound.

East Cobb wasn't stifled by the heat, however. Right fielder Trey Rodgers (2010 Kennesaw Mountain HS, Ga.), RHP Jordan Brooks (2009 Tattnall Square, Ga.), catcher Jake Harris (2010 Kennesaw Mountain HS, Ga.) and first baseman Kyle Henderson (The Walker School, Ga.) all recorded multi-hit games.

Rodgers, Brooks, and Harris went 2-for-4. Brooks hit a single and a double, and Harris homered and singled. Henderson went a perfect 3-for-3 with three straight singles and a run scored.

For Central Alabama, center fielder Trey Cochran-Gill (2011 Tallassee HS, Ala.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, a run scored, and a RBI.

Marietta, Ga. — The Dirtbags edged the East Cobb Cardinals, 3-1, Thursday morning on Field No. 1 at the East Cobb Complex, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Designated hitter Corey Seager (2012 Northwest Cabarrus HS, N.C.) led the Dirtbags at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double.

On the mound, RHP Ryan Gupton (2011 DH Conley HS, N.C.) topped out at 87 mph and sat between 82-86. He also flashed a 81-mph curve and a 80-mph change-up. Through five innings, Gupton allowed one run on five hits and struck out six.

Meanwhile, Connor Hughes (2011 Harrison HS, Ga.) and Christian Sutherland (2011 Alpharetta HS, Ga.) both went a perfect 2-for-2. Hughes recorded two singles and a stolen base, while Sutherland tallied a single, a double, and two stolen bases.
