Batting Practice Highlights >>

2/18/2017 7:35:36 PM

Antonio Flores (2019 3B, Allen Park, MI) saved some of his best swings for the games but still took a strong batting practice, showing a simple and strong swing that was consistently well timed resulting in hard line drive contact.

Jordan Nwogu (2017 OF, Ann Arbor, MI) still has some adjustments to make, especially in developing some rhythm so his hands aren't trying to generate bat speed from a still start, but his outstanding raw strength enables to impact the ball very loudly and hard.  He has a high power ceiling if everything comes together.

John Malcom (2018 1B, West Bloomfield, MI) has a high national ranking and a Vanderbilt commit due to his outstanding left handed bat speed.  The 6-4/217 athlete ranks in the upper tier of all players nationally in that area and it was on display this morning.

Evan Kiah (2018 OF, Lake Forest, IL) has a big and strong 6-2/195 build and creates very good left handed bat speed that resulted in lots of hard pull to mid field contact.

Kyren Power (2020 1B, Plainfield, IN) was one of many impressive freshman at the showcase and has very good bat speed for his age with good extension through contact..  He's a left handed thrower but a right handed hitter.

Roy Thurman (2017 OF, Indianapolis, IN) is a strong and mature young man and uses that strength to drive the gaps with power and carry from a loose extended swing.

Ryan Lynch (2020 LHP, Granger, IN) is one of the top ranked freshman pitchers in the country but is also a high level two-way prospect with 6.8 speed and a quick right handed swing that is short and aggressive.

Tommy Blitchok (2018 3B, Grandville, MI) is a very aggressive player in all phases of the game and none more so than in his approach to hitting.  He creates lots of right handed bat speed and made very hard line drive contact, mostly to the pull side.

Ryan McCurry (2018 OF, Solon, OH) may have had the best combination of batting practice and game at-bats on the day, as his combination of strength, raw bat speed and ability to square up the ball hard all stood out.  He's a very interesting all around athlete but especially at the plate.

Aaron Dolney (2019 C, Plymouth, MI) is very strong for a sophomore at 6-2/200 and it shows in the bat speed that he creates.  He gets to his front side early and aggressively and made hard and loud pull contact.

Purple vs. Columbia Blue Highlights >>

2/18/2017 5:21:42 PM

Brandon Kline (2018 OF, Canonsburg, PA): Was dominant on the mound for two innings, working 82-85 MPH with good sink and command; as well and showing a hammer curveball in the low-mid 70's. He struck out 5, he also doubled and scored a run when hitting.

Spencer Marcus (2018 OF, Chatham, ON): Hammered a double into the opposite field gap, showing good ability to make mid-AB adjustments and cover the plate well with authority.

John Malcom (2018 1B, West Bloomfield, MI): Known for his prodigious pull-field power, Malcom flashed in this game the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field with authority.

Aaron Dolney (2019 C, Plymouth, MI): Came on in relief and showed some serious arm strength, working up to 85 MPH with his fastball and generating big time arm side life. He's a very physical prospect who looks good in several facets.

Ryan McCurry (2018 OF, Solon, OH): McCurry finished off a very good event by going 3-3 in the final game including 2 doubles, showing a very good combination of of bat speed and foot speed which he used on the bases well. He had a very good event on the whole.

Jackson Brown (2018 RHP, Oconomowoc, WI): Worked up to 84 MPH with his fastball and showed feel for four pitches, striking out 5 hitters in his three innings on the mound.
Columbia Blue vs. Green Highlights >>

2/18/2017 3:28:54 PM

Stephen Gilbertsen (2018 LHP, Chesterton, IN): Allowed one hit over 3 shutout innings, striking out 4 and doing a great job pounding the strike zone. He worked 80-82 MPH with his fastball and did a very good job mixing in a sharp breaking ball as well.

Kaleb Smothers (2018 RHP, Geneva, OH): Struck out 6 and allowed only two hits over 3 shutout innings; working 77-81 MPH with his fastball and really pounding the bottom of the strike zone at will.

John Malcom (2018 1B, West Bloomfield, MI): Continues to show elite-level bat speed and strength; and showed it twice in game. He roped two shots to the pull field, one fell in for a single and one was caught; but both had big time jump off the barrel.

Antonio Flores (2019 3B, Allen Park, MI): Connected on a pair of doubles and continued to show his smooth, easy swing that covers the plate well and can work to all fields. He took a good BP earlier as well; and should be on the radar as a good hitting prospect from the Mitten State.
Purple vs. Green Highlights >>

2/18/2017 1:24:53 PM

Ryan Lynch (2020 LHP, Granger, IN): The No. 40 overall player in the class of 2020, Lynch put on quite the pitching display, throwing three shutout innings with 7 strikeouts, working 84-87 MPH with his fastball and missing bats with a sharp breaking ball. He also collected a pair of base hits on the day, showcasing his two-way talent.

Drew Rom (2018 LHP, Fort Thomas, KY): Rom started the game on the mound for the Purple Team and was pretty electric, working 83-87 MPH with his fastball with command and a very sharp slider that he missed bats with. He struck out 5 over 3 perfect innings.

Ethan Peters (2019 OF, Grand Haven, MI): Peters made some of the louder contact on the day, drilling a double well over the center fielder's head into deep center. He's got quality strength in his swing and does a good job covering the plate as well.

Peyton Tisi (2017 OF, Barrie, ON): Showed solid athleticism throughout the day and also drove the ball pretty well; lining one of the few extra base hits of the game into left center field for a triple. He collected a pair of RBI on that hit as well.

Charlie Wright (2018 MIF, Seattle, WA): Wright showed well two ways in this game; working 78-82 MPH on the mound with extreme arm side life that caused several empty swings over his two innings; and later adding a firm single to right center field.
