2022 National Academic Showcase (Tues/Wed) (06/14/2022 - 06/15/2022)

1-Black VS 4-Purple Game Highlights >>

6/16/2022 5:00:00 AM

Camden Curley (2023 RHP, Winter Park, FL) got the start for team black and was dominant. Camden went three innings giving up no hits or runs while striking out five. His fastball sat 84-87 topping at 88. His secondary pitch was  a sharp slider with tight spin that he would go to with two strikes. Camden has a super projectible body at 6’5 185lbs with very good upside in his athleticism and arm speed.

Mason Curley (2023 RHP, Winter Park, FL) was impressive during his time on the mound. Showing a loose quick arm running his fastball up to 84. Masons breaking ball had a good two plane shape with late depth to it. The right hander struck out five in three innings of work.

Tanner O’Neal ( 2023 C, Bonaire, GA) showed his ability to get the barrel to the baseball as he smashed the ball up the middle for a single as well as he lined a ball down the left field line for a double. Tanner stays short and simple to the ball and generates serious jump on the ball at contact. He added another single in his next at bat getting a hanging breaking ball and pulling it into left field.

Xaden Benson (2024 SS, Atlanta, GA) has continued to have a solid showcase as he barreled up another ball today in game as he drove it over the center fields head for an RBI triple. He would later add another three bagger as he split the left center field gap and once again cruised into third base. Benson has a very projectible frame with plenty more strength to be added going forward.

Jack Stowers (2023 C, Mobile, AL) followed up a strong batting practice showing with a loud barrel to end his showcase. The large physical back stop got all of a fastball and drove it to the pull side showing what he is capable when he can get his arms extended on a pitch.

Nicholas McCord (2024 SS, Birmingham, AL) showed a lot to like on the mound during his two innings of work with a live fastball that lived in the mid 80’s topping out at 86 mph with a quick shoulder that gets to a higher slot giving hitters a tougher look. He also mixed in a curveball and changeup for strikes to give him a polished three pitch mix to attack hitter with.

Clinton Harris (2024 OF, Lawrenceville, GA) had himself another three hit game on day two of the showcase as he continued to pepper the right center field gap getting his hands extended and covering the outer half of the plate. Harris then hoped on the mound and ran the fastball up to 89 mph showing a clean repeatable delivery and a breaking ball for strikes.

2-Gold VS 3- Navy Game Highlights >>

6/16/2022 5:00:00 AM

Wyatt Rudden (2025 RHP, Greenwood Village, CO) attacked with the fastball sitting right around 80-81 MPH, very little movement but if any, shows arm side run. CB around 67-68. Located the CB well and seemed to have sharp movement on a 11-5 axis. Filled up the zone well with the FB. Solid outing for Wyatt, also filled up the zone well as his outing went on, did a good job at keeping hitters off balance with the FB/CB mix. Showed a changeup in warmups, but never threw it in his outing.

Liam Lennon (2024 LHP, Centennial, CO) Showed a really good AB in the second inning. Lefty swinger, showed a short, sweet swing to find a barrel for a base hit up the middle. Wasn’t trying to do too much at the plate and let his quick hands do the work.

Wade Hartrick (2025 C, Boulder, CO) has a strong lower half, pushes off the mound well. FB around 80-81, low spin rate (~1700-1900). FB showing arm side run to it. CH is a good swing and miss pitch around 73-74 MPH. Went in and out on batters well, living on both corners of the plate. Not afraid to go in on hitters. Generated three k’s with the CH, one k with the elevated FB very good movement. Tunnels his FB/CH really well for his age.

Kyle Powers (2024 LHP, Atlantic Beach, FL) had the only RBI for the gold squad. Worked the count well and found something he could hit, shooting one behind the SS for a single. Wasn’t trying to do much at the plate except do his job by getting the runner home. Mature approach at the plate.

Sheppard Tyler (2023 RHP, Austin, TX) displayed quick arm speed. FB sitting around 80-83, got up to 84 and 85 one time each but lived low 8’s, spin rate showing ~2000-2200 RPM. CB showing around 67-68 . Flashed what appeared to be a changeup but wasn’t a competitive pitch. Good 3 innings of work for this guy. Commanded the zone better as his outing went on and missed a lot of barrels.

Jeremiah Lucero (2023 2B, Desoto, TX) made a web-gem of a play at SS in the 2nd inning. Very hard hit ball in the 6-hole, made a diving play, gave the 2b a great feed and twisted it for a 6-4-3 double play. Showed obviously great range. Best play we’ve seen on field 5 in this showcase so far.

Hunter St Denis (2024 3B, Gaithersburg, MD) presents a big build who appears to be very strong in the legs. FB sat around 78. Throws a knuckleball that appears to have movement to it. Definitely a pitch to keep hitters fooled and off balance. Quick and efficient one inning of work, pounded the zone with the FB and got outs.

Jude S Young (2024 C, Odenville, AL) was in the zone consistently, showing FB/CB mix with the occasional CH. FB showed slight sink to it, but nothing drastic. In his one inning of work, gave up one any hit on a bleeder into the OF. Filled up the zone, generating weak contact from Gold hitters

.

3-Navy VS 5-Royal Game Highlights >>

6/16/2022 5:00:00 AM

Bryden Marcotte (2024 C, North Waterboro, ME) Smooth swing and controlled the barrel through the zone well. Ripped a FB straight up the middle in his first AB. Second AB he got all of it, driving a fly ball into right center that three-hopped the fence for a standup triple. Shows that he has power in all parts of the field.

Jonathan Mack (2023 LHP, Lexington, MA) generates natural two-seam movement. FB sat around 78-79. Topped at 80. Very crafty arm. CB showed a 12/6 axis that would drop into the zone late. Would start his fastball down the middle against RHH and it would catch the outer half for the strike. Works quick and efficient and fills up the zone well with his two-pitch mix. Went inside and outside well on the FB. Generated a few K’s with the elevated FB.

Jose Miqueo (2023 1B, Southampton, NJ) has a very strong lower half, generates power there in his swing. Had a good first AB, ripping an inside pitch into the left-center gap, burning the left fielder for an easy stand-up double.

Jeremiah Lucero (2023 2B, Desoto, TX) made another great play at SS which ended up saving a run. Made a running catch with back turned to the field and made a running catch on a shallow fly ball into left field. At the plate generated an RBI single up the middle. Stayed short to the ball and drove a ball up the middle. Shows some speed on the bases, easily stealing second base right after his hit. Good ball player all around.

Dalton Wallace (2025 RHP, Colleyville, TX) has a three pitch arsenal with a FB/CB/CH mix, showing young command but still generating weak contact from hitters. FB sitting around 74-76. Filled up the zone and kept hitters off balance as his outing went forward.

Jace Turner (2024 C, Leesburg, AL) shows a smooth swing and stayed back well on the breaking ball. Took an outside curveball and drove a liner into right field for a single. Aggressive base runner, getting a great jump against a lefty on the mound for an easy stolen base.

2-Gold VS 5-Royal Game Highlights >>

6/16/2022 5:00:00 AM

David Womack (2025 RHP, Spicewood, TX) a right-handed arm. Not overpowering stuff. Two-pitch mix with the FB/CB. FB sitting around 76-78. Spotted up the low/away corner well against RHH. Fields his position well. Located the curveball well, keeping hitters off balance and generating weak contact on the ground. Pounded the zone well in general and got outs.

Lance Angell (2023 SS, Gallatin, TN) a right-handed arm. Taller build with long legs which is where he’s generating his power. Power FB and mixes in the curveball to generate swing and misses. FB sitting 84-87 with a sharp curveball around 70-71. Explosive off the rubber mixed with quick arm speed gives him the velocity that he brings. Best arm we have seen over here out of the three total games. Was dominant in his only inning of work.

Jack Kale (2024 SS, Fort Worth, TX) First pitch of the game was a great inside-out swing to line one into right field through the 4-hole for a single.

Taylor Trillo (2024 1B, Phoenix, AZ) Showed that velocity doesn’t faze him, turned around on 87 and hit a hard bouncer up the middle for a base hit. Stayed within himself in his at bat and wasn’t trying to do too much. Mature approach at the plate.

Batting Practice Highlights >>

6/15/2022 1:26:42 PM

Tanner O’neal (2023 C, Bonaire, GA) showed some consistency with his right-handed swing hitting the ball hard to all fields throughout his round of batting practice. The bat path works with some loft through the hitting zone allowing him to routinely impact the ball in the air.

Ben Bryant (2025 OF, Smyrna, TN) does a nice job getting back to even from and open base in his left-handed swing. The ball comes off the barrel with some jump as the strength at the point of contact stands out with flashes of pop to the pull side.

Landon Harper (2024 MIF, Franklin, TN) is able to get the bat head through the zone on a very level path that gets him on plane early and creates good extension through contact. The intent and flashes of bat speed is what helps produce the power while he swings from a wider base.

Kyle Chatham (2023 OF, Marietta, GA) gets to a wider base at the point of contact allowing him to tap into the lower half power as he creates leverage through the attack zone. The ball really came off best to the middle of the field where he concentrated most of the extension.

Robby Robinson (2023 2B, Killen, AL) was able to stay on time with his simple pick up and put down, load and trigger that allowed him to get to contact out front at a consistent rate. The bat speed stood out the most in the right handed swing with line drives that reached the wall in a hurry.

Nicholas McCord (2024 SS, Birmingham, AL) works with a simple no stride approach turning the upper half into the load before unloading on the baseball with good intent to the right-handed stroke. The bat path works mostly level through the hitting zone creating hard hit linear contact.

Aubrey Hermes (2024 OF, Shreveport, LA) jumped out early in his round of batting practice lacing the baseball off the wall in left field. The ball still came off the bat on a pretty low line with a linear attack angle through the hitting zone. The combination of bat speed and strength at the point of contact are definitely more than intriguing.

David Womack (2025 RHP, Spicewood, TX) does a nice job controlling the load with a small amount of separation as he works through the trigger. The bat path does a nice job working tight to the body with a compact movement into contact with an ability to use all fields.

Wade Hartrick (2025 C, Boulder, CO) was able to get to his launching point out front at a pretty consistent rate during his round of batting practice. The ball really carried best to left field where he was able to leverage the baseball and create back spin.

Kyle Powers (2024 LHP, Atlantic Beach, FL) showed a good feel for the barrel in his round with a consistent bat path that works on a shorter track to the baseball attacking the inner part of the ball. He starts in a wider base which mean he can use his lower half to create power from the ground up at contact.

Liam Lennon (2024 LHP, Centennial, CO) has the type of strength in his swing that can really play when contact comes out front with extension in the swing. The ball jumped best from the middle to the pull side of the field with good timing and rhythm from his small short stride.

Owen Stevenson (2023 1B, Fairview, TX) has a bat path that works steeper into the hitting zone but still is able to create good extension through contact and allow him to hit the baseball hard on a line. The best contact came to the middle of the field where he worked from gap to gap for most of the round.

Bradley Dunn (2023 OF, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) starts with a narrow base using a hanging leg lift to get into the lower half as he works to a strong base at contact. The bat speed an path both pair well with a linear swing and ability to get through the plane of the baseball with some intent.

Sheppard Tyler (2023 RHP, Austin, TX) brings a large physical presence to the left-handed box. The left-handed swing works through the zone with some uphill and loft to the path helping to produce some of the power he showcased to the pull side.

Evan DiTanna (2023 SS, Denver, CO) was able to juice the baseball to the pull side throughout his round. The bat speed and intent stood out more than anything during the round with the bat flying through the zone and staying connected through the hitting zone.

Clay Spencer (2023 C, Hoover, AL) let the bat head fly during his round of batting practice showing some of the better power upside of the event. The round got started with some loud contact as he was able to prove he can get the ball in the air at a consistent rate.

Xaden Benson (2024 SS, Atlanta, GA) has the kind of twitch and compact bat stroke that will allow him to get to better fastballs. During his round of practice he was able to get the barrel to all parts of the zone while spraying the baseball to all fields with a balanced approach.

Jack Stowers (2023 C, Mobile, AL) employees a simple approach with his right-handed swing as he looks to get into a strong base early and let it work for him at the point of contact. The path stays tight and to the inside part of the ball with the most efficient swing possible.

Landon Bailey (2023 OF, Vidor, TX) was able to use his toe tap trigger to get the front side locked in on time before triggering the top half of the swing. There is good separation in the upper and lower half as he looks to create that coil early in the swing and build tension to fire on the baseball with.

Dalton Wallace (2025 RHP, Colleyville, TX) worked best to the left-center-field gap with little waisted movement as he gets to contact. The extension at the point of contact while still being able to stay through it is a huge part of why he sees the success he can have in the middle of the field despite it being a deeper part of the park.

Jack Kale (2024 SS, Fort Worth, TX) found his swing as the round went on and the leg lift timing got settled in. The ball really showed its best carry to the pull side where he can get the lower half involved and truly use the strong core to create whip through the hitting zone.

Taylor Trillo (2024 1B, Phoenix, AZ) brings an easy swing to watch to the left-handed batter box. The bat moves through zone with a swing path and bat speed that you rarely see with a young junior outfielder. The wider base brings the strength in the lower half while the bat path keeps him on the barrel at a high rate.

Henry Leipart (2024 OF, Encino, CA) gets the bat head through the zone with serious intent as he attack on one of the more linear path at the event and is able to create line drive contact at a higher rate. The lower and upper half work well together in the swing maximizing the amount of torque he is able to produce at contact.

Jace Turner (2024 C, Leesburg, AL) does a nice job getting extension through contact in his right-handed swing with a mature feel for the barrel. The bat speed is crucial to the swing as it allows him to get to contact out front where he does most of his damage.

1-Black VS 2-Gold Game Highlights >>

6/15/2022 5:00:00 AM

Liam Lennon (2024 LHP, Centennial, CO) a lefty arm with about a ¾ slot delivery. FB showing slight run to it. Not overpowering, but good stuff. Showed 3 pitch mix with FB, CB, and CH. FB sitting around 74-78. Topped @ 81 in first inning. Did a good job keeping runners held at first. Drew a lot of swing and misses with the running FB.

Brendan Gardner (2024 2B, Pacific Palisades, CA) put together some quality AB with a very loud out to RF. Saw lot of pitches and worked the count well.

Sam Scharville (2023 C, Hudson, OH) showed very quick hands in his first AB, turning on an inside pitch and lined it into left for a base hit. Very strong and athletic build, shows that he has power in his swing. Shows hustle and aggressiveness on the bases. Second at bat he hit a hard barrel into the left center gap that would’ve been a sure double if he didn’t trip rounding first.

Dylan Rose (2023 SS, Windermere, FL) spots up the FB really well. Paints the lower away corner against righties. Really strong lower half. FB sat around 79-80. Topped 82. Quick arm speed. Looked very smooth at SS, quick feet, attacked the baseball, and strong arm when throwing across to first.

Kyle Powers (2024 LHP, Atlantic Beach, FL) a lefty arm who appears to primarily throw the off-speed (CB, CH) but not afraid to throw the FB when needed. FB with slight arm side run, sitting around 78-79. Did a good job at missing barrels and changing speeds of his pitch selections. “Crafty lefty.” Commanded the strike zone well with all of his pitches. Very efficient, works quick and gets in a good rhythm. and gets lots of outs.

David Womack (2025 RHP, Spicewood, TX) showed a really good at bat later in the game. Didn’t get much in the zone to hit, but when he did, he ripped a fastball on the inner half down the third base line for a double. Short and smooth swing and quick hands that got through the zone with ease.

Carter McGinnis (2025 RHP, Jonesboro, GA) has an interesting delivery, seems like it could be difficult to pick up his pitches when in the box. Seems to hide the ball pretty well. Not going to overpower you with anything. FB sitting around 72-73 topping at 75. with little movement. If any movement, the ball runs to the arm side. Missed a lot of barrels, generated weak contact. Gave up no runs in his outing.

Maxwell Hunt (2025 RHP, Tampa, FL) had a very hard-hit liner right at the first baseman his first AB. Very tall build and appears to have some power in his swing.

Kyle Chatham (2023 OF, Marietta, GA) showed great control for the barrel in his first at bat, driving a low and away pitch down the first base line for an easy standup double. Got a great jump on a steal attempt to third, but got called out on a questionable bang-bang play.

Jude Wascom (2023 2B, Thompsons Station, TN) over the top delivery. Lived around 76-79 topping at 80 with the FB. Some FB showed arm side run + sink. Got behind in the counts, but worked his way back for most hitters. CB seemed to be pretty sharp and kept hitters off balance.

Tanner O'Neal (2023 C, Bonaire, GA) has a live arm, sitting 82-83 topping 84  with higher spin rates in all of his pitches (FB ~2000-2200, CB ~2500) Whippy arm motion, Commanding the zone very well with his two-pitch mix. Struck out the side in his only inning of work. Best arm of the day that I’ve seen.

TJ Franks (2024 2B, Fortson, GA) a righty arm. Lived on the outer half of the plate for all batters. Sat 72-74 topping at 76 with the FB. Only threw one curveball in his inning of work, but had the hitter off balance and got a weak groundball right back at him.

3-Navy VS 5-Royal Game Highlights >>

6/15/2022 3:02:28 AM

Jude S Young (2024 C, Odenville, AL) got the scoring going for team navy as he drove the ball over the left fielders head for an RBI double.  Jude keeps it simple in the box as he swings hard and looks to loft the ball over the outfielders head. Young also is is a defensively solid catcher. He has decent footwork with quick transfers on throw downs. His hands also work well when receiving.

Ike Schmidly (2023 OF, Charlotte, NC) was very impressive in his two innings of work for team navy. Ike went two scoreless innings giving up no hits , no runs and striking out two. Ike worked with a 3/4s slot with plenty of late sink to it. His fastball sat 85-87 topping at 88.  He showed some feel for a CH with some depth that sat 79-80. Schmidly has a long slender build with plenty of deception to his delivery.  His fastball is firm out of the hand as he gathered many swing and misses from it.

Jonathan Mack (2023 LHP, Lexington, MA) Showed off some pop in his bat late in the game as he smashed a fastball off the right field wall for a triple.  Mack has a very advanced approach at the plate with plenty of strength. He uses a slight leg lift load for timing and gets very nice separation with the hands. The left hander has plus bat speed and a longer swing path.

4-Purple vs 5-Royal Game Highlights >>

6/15/2022 2:57:10 AM

Taylor Trillo (2024 1B, Phoenix, AZ) drove a ball to right field for an RBI single to get the scoring going for team royal. The left hander uses a wide upright stance as he has a small leg kick  and does a good job of firing the lower half. He has some natural loft to his swing with a longer path. Trillo also showed a fastball that topped in the low 80s.

Seth Gregg (2023 SS, Franklin, TN) gathered two hits at the plate today during team purples double header. One being single to centerfield and the other being a double down the third base line. The right hander also drove in a run in their second game. Gregg stays aggressive at the plate only attacking anything in the zone. Seth’s athleticism really stood out as he showed decent speed on the base paths as well as solid instincts.

Mason Howell (2023 OF, Signal Mountain, TN) racked up two hits in team purples second game of the day. Howell drove a ball to left for an RBI base hit in his first at bat then later on in the game he drove a single to right field. Howell uses a gap to gap approach looking to spray the baseball to all fields. Mason has some Rhythm in the load with some decent bat speed through the zone.

3-Navy VS 4-Purple Game Highlights >>

6/15/2022 2:53:56 AM

Ian Bailey (2023 RHP, Chandler, AZ) got the offense going for team Navy as he drove a fastball on the outer half to the right center gap for a RBI Double. Bailey has a wide stance with good balance as well as good weight transfer on the swing. Ian has some strength at contact as well

Jackson Gutta (2023 RHP, Omaha, NE) went three scoreless innings  giving up two hits and striking out one. Jackson worked a three pitch mix as he worked with a fastball with some ASR, a changeup that he would throw late in counts with plenty of depth, as well as a tight slider he would throw in the zone.  Gutta works with a 3/4s arm slot with minimal effort at release. His fastball sat 79-83.

Bradley Dunn (2023 OF, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) went two scoreless innings  striking out three batters for team Navy. Dunn sat 83-85 topping at 86 in both of his innings of work. His secondary pitch was a sharp 12-6 curveball with late depth to it. Bradley’s has a very fluid and loose arm with an over the top arm slot. Dunn’s fastball had good ride through the zone.

Xaden Benson (2024 SS, Atlanta, GA) went two innings giving up two hits and striking out four batters. Xaden commanded his fastball well to the outer half mixing with a 12-6 breaking ball with some depth. Benson works with a high 3/4s arm slot and has solid arm speed. His fastball sat 79-83.  Benson also displayed great barrel control at the plate as he drove a ball to right center for a single.
