Pinecrest
RHP Dillon Maples struck out 18 batters in a 3-1 victory over Scotland County. The win moves Pinecrest to 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
Maples, who struck out 18 batters and no-hit Scotland last April, again took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, but it was broken up by a Greg Jorgenson single. He ended the game giving up just one hit, and was charged with an unearned run as Jorgenson ended up scoring on a
Tim Chavis single after an error.
Joey Vecchione picked up the save, striking out two men after Maples exited to run the total to 20.
Pinecrest came in at #42 in the March 22nd National Rankings and is back in action Friday against Purnell Swett, before participating in the Hilltop Invitational Tournament next weekend in Hillsborough.
Scotland fell to 5-5 on the season, but has a top prospect to watch for the 2012 Draft in
RHP Curt Britt, a South Carolina commit currently ranked #2 in the state and #39 in the 2012 class.
