2023 Central Prospect Showcase (08/19/2023 - 08/20/2023)

Sunday Game Highlights
8/20/2023 4:38:24 PM

Drew Grego (2025 SS, Papillion, NE) flashed some impressive two-way ability in this one. He tossed three strong innings on the bump, striking out six opposing batters and running his fastball up to 88 mph. Grego has shown big tools across the board this weekend, and his pitching performance was no different. His best secondary offering was his slider, which was a hard-biting pitch with a 2400+ spin rate. He also added a hard-hit single into centerfield in his first at bat of the day, as he found a barrel on a low and outside pitch.

Mason Jeffers (2025 C, Liberty, MO) collected two barrels on the day, showing some strength in the hands and the ability to get the barrel on plane early. His first hit was an absolute rocket off the bat for an RBI single into left field. The primary catcher showed well defensively too, proving to be a defensive asset with offensive upside.

Bryce Ledgerwood (2025 2B, Prairie Grove, AR) put two good swings on the ball today and was rewarded with two base hits. In his first AB, he sent a well-struck single up the middle. In his next, he jumped all over a first pitch fastball for an RBI double into the pull side gap. The primary shortstop has shown good actions in the infield and can hold his own at the plate. His hands are direct to the ball, and he has a smooth finish to his swing.

Logan Smith (2024 C, Overland Park, KS) is a true utility player, and he was making plays all over the diamond in this one. The primary catcher has solid receiving and blocking skills behind the plate, but he also showed the ability to play the corner infield spots as well. He made a nice pick at first base to save an out, and he also made the routine plays at third base with no issues. In addition to his glove, he added a line drive single in his first at bat of the day.

Wyatt Ducos (2025 1B, Holden, MO) was seeing the ball well today, as he collected two well-struck hits and four RBI. In his first at bat, he sent a high fly ball to the warning track in center field for a two-RBI double. He followed it up in his next at bat with a frozen rope right back up the middle for another two-RBI. Ducos stands at a strong and physical 6-foot-4, 230-pounds, he proved that his 92 mph exit velo was no fluke, as he consistently hit the ball hard in game.

Chase Harrington (2026 RHP, Emporia, KS) continued to find barrels in Sunday's game, as he squared up two hard line drives, both for singles into left field. The big 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-hander also showed well on the bump, striking out four in three innings of work. He ran his fastball up to 81 mph and flashed a four pitch mix that he could control well and compete in the zone with.
