Maroon vs Navy
Maroon
#18 Victor Mederos- Very impressive right our of the gate, up to 94 mph in the first inning, featuring a very sharp curveball in the upper 70's. While he only got to throw to two batters before the lightning delay, he showed a polished delivery and clean actions.
#19 Hambleton Oliver - Up to 86 mph from the right side, also featured a tight curveball and a slider. The off speed pitches had late break when he started them low in the zone, getting some swings an misses with it.
#13 Wade Elliot - Turned on an inside pitch during his first at bat of the day, lining a double down the left field line.
#6 Mason Roach - Sitting in the low 80s and upper 70s with his fastball, and throwing a lot of strikes. Used a sharp breaking ball to get a lot of swings and misses, plus throwing from a three quarter arm slot to keep hitters even more off balance.
#9 Brian Zeldin - Mid 80's, 86 mph with the fastball, also showed a pretty good changeup with a lot of armside run and a similar arm action to his fastball. Added a curveball with some sharpness. Worked with a quick tempo in his delivery, has a good feel for pitching overall and showed well in this appearance.
#22 CJ Rodriguez - crushed a line drive to CF, showed a level bat plane and very quick hands.
#3 Bryce Melear - Pitching from a three quarter slot and whippy arm, got the fastball up to 87 with a ton of arm side run. Used a slider in the mid 70's to keep hitters off balance, and even started off a few at bats with it for strikes. Very confident in the slider to throw whenever he needs a strike, and its a effective pitch.
Navy
#20 Brody Westbrooks - started off the game with an 86 mph fastball and sat there for the majority of his appearance, varying between 84-87
#11 Kevin Sim - showed some range and good footwork on a ground ball at third base. During his first at bat of the day, hit a hard ground ball single up the middle
#23 Tyler Wood - Had a hard line drive single in the first inning off of a hanging slider, showed the ability to make hard contact all day and throughout batting practice
#16 Joey Nicolai - Made hard contact up the middle, then stole second base off of a lefty with a pretty good move. has shown some good athleticism throughout the day and also a good fell for the game
#15 Riley Greene - made some loud contact out to the left center gap in his first at bat, then had some more solid contact on a base hit through the right side to cash in an RBI. Definitely an advanced bat.
#14 Jovan Gill - 2020 grad, up to 88 mph with his fastball, and not afraid to throw it for strikes. Off speed pitches are what is more impressive. Showed a changeup in the low 70's with late drop and run, and also a sharp curve ball. Struck out two batters in the first, and two batters in the second inning turning in a very effective outing
#3 John Wyatt Cheyney - throwing from an over the top arm slot, got up to 85 with the fastball. Curveball comes out of that same slot and is 12 to 6 with some late break. Also featured a changeup in the upper 70's, all three pitches from the high arm slot. Struck out five batters in his two innings of work
