College Top 25: Making the move

Kendall Rogers

We’re getting closer to the NCAA postseason, and there are plenty of teams out there making a move in the latest Perfect Game College Top 25 rankings. However, Virginia captured a home series sweep over Georgia Tech this past weekend and remains No. 1 for another week.

While the Cavaliers lead the charge in the latest rankings, Louisiana-Lafayette, Oregon State, Florida State and Washington round out the top five. The Ragin’ Cajuns recorded their seventh series sweep of the season with a road series sweep over South Alabama, while the Beavers took care of UCLA, the Seminoles took two of three from North Carolina and Washington did a clean sweep at home of Bethune-Cookman in some non-conference action.

Cal Poly, Louisville and Oklahoma State continued their upward climb in the latest rankings, while Miami and Vanderbilt entered the top 10 after successful weekends. The Hurricanes hit the road and swept a solid Duke club, moving from No. 12 to No. 9, while Vanderbilt is this week’s biggest mover. Though the Commodores dropped a midweek bout to Louisville to begin the week, they made a significant statement over the weekend by not only taking a road series from red-hot Florida, but by dominating the Gators in the series finale, moving from No. 17 to No. 10 as a result.

With Vanderbilt’s significant climb, some teams such as Ole Miss, LSU, Houston, South Carolina, Indiana and Rice were forced to move down, while Mississippi State moved back into the top 20 after a home series win over Tennessee.

Oregon and Texas A&M dropped out of this week’s rankings, with the Ducks dropping a road series to Arizona State, and the Aggies losing a road series against Arkansas, albeit in close fashion. Moving in this week’s rankings are Arkansas and Nebraska at No’s 24 and 25, respectively. The Hogs are back in the rankings after just a couple of week hiatus, while the Huskers make their 2014 rankings debut after winning yet another Big Ten series, this time on the road against Michigan State.

The Perfect Game College Top 25 rankings are released every Monday during the season.
