June 3 Regional Rankings

Florida

Our final Florida Regional Rankings have three state champions at the top. Archbishop McCarthy, winner of the 4A State Title top the list, followed by 3A champ Bishop Verot, and 5A champion West Boca. 4A runner-up Tampa Jesuit is 4th; with 6A champion Alonso coming in 5th.

One new addition is made this week with 2A champ North Florida Christian at #14. The Eagles upset Orangewood Christian to win the title, Orangewood drops to #7 in the rankings, preceded by Flanagan, ahead of preseason National #1 Gulliver Prep.

Great Plains

Maize (KS) put the finishing touches on a perfect season to claim not only the Kansas 6A state championship, but also lock up the Great Plains' top ranking.

Maple Grove (MN) currently sits at 19-0 heading into their sectional semi-final matchup with Coon Rapids and moves up to #2 this week. Francis Howell (MO) moved into the #3 spot after knocking off the previous #1 team (St. Louis Uni.) to earn a berth in the 4A semifinals against #7 Vianney.

Regis Jesuit (CO) jumps up to #4 after claiming the Colorado 5A state championship, while Papillion-LaVista South (NE) remains idle at #5 as the Nebraska state champs.

Mid-Atlantic

South Carolina 3A champion St. James is back to the top spot in the rankings, followed by undefeated South County (VA). Two North Carolina schools are next, Holly Springs and Roberson, they face off this weekend to decide the NC 4A title.

South Carolina 4A champ Sumter is next, with NC 3A-East champion Northeast Guilford at #6 and James River (VA) at 7.

This week has three new additions, all Virginia schools with Lake Braddock coming in at #17, St. Anne’s-Belfield at 23, and Potomac Falls at 24.

Midwest

Providence Catholic (IL) again holds the #1 spot as they take on #14 Downers Grove South in Saturday’s sectional championship. Cathedral (IN) has already won a sectional title, but unlike Illinois they play sectionals before regionals. Their first regional test will be Brownsburg.

Three other Illinois schools round out the top five: Lyons Township at 3, Nazareth Academy at 4, and Glenbrook North at 5. Fort Wayne Carroll (IN) comes in at six, and Perrysburg (OH) comes in at seven and faces #11 Lakota East in the Ohio Division 1 state title.

New additions this week are: #14 Downers Grove South (IL), #15 Oak Park-River Forest (IL), #17 Joliet Catholic (IL), #18 St. Francis de Sales (OH), and #23 Warren East (KY)

Northeast

There are big changes in this week’s Northeast Regional rankings as the top two teams (Don Bosco Prep, Peters Township) both suffered defeats. Two New York schools, Poly Prep Country Day and George Washington now hold the top two spots, with Neumann-Goretti (PA) moving up to #3.

Gloucester Catholic takes over as the top New Jersey team at #4, and Council Rock North (PA) slides up to #5.

Five teams make their Regional Rankings debut this week. Forward (PA) is #16, Red Bank Catholic (NJ) is #19, Haverford School (PA) is #20, Manheim Township (PA) is #21, and Lehman (NY) is #24.

Northwest

Westview (OR) moves into the top spot this week as they get set to face #4 Central Catholic in the 6A state championship game. Central Catholic has had a cinderella run through the playoffs to this point as a three seed, knocking off last week's #10 and #13 ranked teams to advance to the finals.

Mount Si (WA) moves up to #2 after knocking off previously top ranked Shorewood in the 3A championship. Bothell slides in just behind them as the 4A state champ. Shorewood finds itself at #5 after the disappointing end to a very successful season.

A pair of new additions include the opponents who will matchup in the Oregon 5A title game, #12 Sherwood and #9 Wilsonville, a pair of three seeds who have taken very different routes to the title game. Wilsonville won with ease until facing then 12th ranked Pendleton in the semis (6-4 win), while Sherwood has won every game by a single run.

Pacific

The depth of talent in the CIF Sectional Championship tournaments has led to a lot of highly ranked teams being upset and causing major shakeups in this week's Pacific Top 25. Heading into the semifinals and finals of many sections there are still a lot of questions to be answered.

Bishop Amat holds the top spot and will face #5 Palm Desert in the Southern Section Division IV Championship game at Dodger Stadium tomorrow. Amat has cruised through the playoffs, winning their games by a combined score of 31-7, while top seeded Palm Desert has made things more interesting with each of their past three wins being decided by two runs or less.

Buchanan moves up to the #2 spot as the Central Coast Section Division I champion. Next week's final rankings are sure to look quite different as Sectional Championships are decided over the weekend.

Southeast

The final Southeast Regional Rankings have state champions in the top four, and seven out of the first eight spots. Georgia AAAA champ Marist tops the ranks, followed by Georgia AAA champ Columbus, and Farragut (TN) winner of four straight TSSAA title. Louisiana 6A Champ New Orleans Jesuit is #4.

Baton Rouge Catholic (LA) is the only non-champion in the top eight, coming in at #5, and are followed by Sumrall, winners of four straight Mississippi AAA title, Georgia AAAAA champion Parkview, and Alabama 6A winner Huntsville.

Southwest

The Southwest region concluded its 2011 season with the state championship games being played in Utah. Top ranked Spanish Fork clinched the final #1 ranking by capturing their third consecutive state championship with relative ease. The Dons held onto the top spot for the entire season in spite of stiff competition from fellow national powerhouse Bishop Gorman (NV), who the Dons beat in the Big League Dugout Championship game 3-2 on March 31st.

4A Utah champion Bingham moved up to #11 and 3A champion Juan Diego finishes at #23. Nevada 3A champion Churchill County moved into the spot vacated by previously ranked Snow Canyon (UT) to finish at #24.

Texahoma

Fort Bend Clements had been the top ranked team in Texas for much of the season, but the Rangers came up on the short end of a classic best of three series with SB Memorial in the Region III semifinals that saw all three games decided by one run.

Memorial comes in at #6 this week after dropping the series opener in the regional final and will need to win the next two against #10 Brazoswood to advance to state. Defending 5A state champion CC Carroll is the top ranked team in the Lone Star state this week, having taken a 1-0 edge on #18 Laredo Alexander in the 5A Region IV finals and appear to be the favorites to repeat at this point.

New additions this week include: #12 LD Bell, #15 Poteet, #21 Buleson, #24 Cornado and #25 Magnolia.

You like 6-foot-9 lefties up to 100 mph? 2026 Brody Bumila (MA) was electric in season opener, super easy upper-90s, multiple 100s. Easy operation w/ simple delivery despite size. That's really all you need to know. Oh, and the opposing team arrived 40 minutes late. Coming off a state-championship run in basketball, Texas signee Brody Bumila made his first start of the spring on April 2nd and didn't disappoint in front of at least 40 scouts packed tightly together behind the backstop.  Knowing it was going to be a quicker look given...

Another week of undefeated weeks for our top 4 ranked teams. Joining them in the top 5, coming off an undefeated week of their own, is Florence-Darlington, a team we have consistently had as a top 10 team all season long. Cloud County and Midland College continue to put together strong weeks and climb the rankings each week it seems. Jumping into the rankings this week on the strength of a 15-game winning streak is Seminole State (OK). And Linn Benton makes the top 25 for a 2nd consecutive week and looks like the top team in the NWAC this spring. Plenty of high-level matchups at the JUCO level for some of the top teams in the county this next week.  Rk. DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: April 15

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
Welcome to this week's small school baseball rankings, covering NCAA Division II, the NAIA, and NCAA Division III. As the calendar turns toward the final weeks of the regular season, the urgency is real across all three levels — teams are running out of weekends to build their cases, and the extended postseason invitations that every program is chasing don't go to programs that peak in March. The next few weeks of results will carry more weight than anything that happened before spring break, and the postseason committees in all three divisions are watching closely. Every series dropped to a team you should beat, every road sweep you let get away — it all matters now in a way it simply didn't two months ago. What you'll also notice as you read through the breakdowns below is that the numbers are doing more of the heavy lifting in how these rankings are constructed. Run...

College Players of the Week: April 14

April 14th Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Jaquae Stewart, INF/OF, Texas State  The Texas State Bobcats (24-12) are sitting in second place in the ultra-competitive Sun Belt Conference, and they have one of the most explosive offenses in the country.  They average right at 8-runs per game and can slug with the best of them, averaging almost 2-home runs per game as well.  Sitting in the middle of the order, Jaquae Stewart, is putting together a career year and is becoming the focus of opposing teams.  The 5-10/234 junior from Sinton, Tx is your classic lefthanded power hitter and is thriving in his move from Austin to San Marcos.  While it wasn’t the best week for his club, Stewart was sensational, collecting 8 hits in his 19 at-bats, scoring 5 runs, launching 5 home runs and driving in an insane 17 runs.  For the season, he is now slashing...

College Top 25: April 13

In a season where remaining in the Top 25 has become a war of attrition, the No. 1 UCLA Bruins (33-2) are making the game look much easier than it is in all reality.  Winners of 27-games in a row, this club continues to win games by any means necessary as they continue their historic run.  Beyond the incredible win streak, the Bruins have started off Big Ten play (18-0) by sweeping their first six conference weekend.  Adding to their resume, in Game 1 of their series at Rutgers, they won a 14-inning thriller by a score of 4-1where their pitching staff registered an eye-popping 30-strikeouts while only surrendering 1 walk and 4 hits throughout.  In most any other season, the No. 2 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (30-5) would be sitting atop the poll as they are putting together a historic season of their own.  They swept Florida State (24-11) who was previously ranked...

PG Draft: Favorite Position Group

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
Every draft class has its strengths. Some years its a loaded group of prep infielders, some years its a deep collection of college arms. In this year’s class, certain position groups stand out above the rest to us. This week, the draft team dives into their favorite position groups. Groups that we believe are loaded with depth, upside, and big league potential. College Infielders It’s hard not to get excited about the crop of college infielders in this year’s class because of who is at the top. Roch Cholowsky alone makes the group exciting. He’s got gold glove potential at the next level and an offensive profile that should make him one of the Top 15 to 20 prospects in all of baseball the second he gets drafted. Justin Lebron is another player with as much upside in the class. He is a premium athlete that can really pick it at short and has big upside with the...

Wolforth Throwing Mentorship: Article 64

Ron Wolforth
Article Image
What Do Barry Zito, Justin Verlander, Trevor Bauer, and Dallas Keuchel All Have in Common? By Ron Wolforth | Texas Baseball Ranch® | PG Arm Care Take a second and think about the question posed in the title before you read on. Four Cy Young Award winners. Four of the most decorated pitchers of their generation. What's the common thread? The first answer is obvious… they all won the most prestigious individual award in pitching. Most of you probably got there immediately. The second answer is less obvious… they all trained at the Texas Baseball Ranch® at some point in their development. Interesting, maybe, but not the point of this article. The third answer is the one I really want you to sit with, because it has direct relevance to your career right now: they all move completely differently. And they all attack hitters completely differently. Don't rush past that....
