New Top 25 Regional Rankings

Florida.

Archbishop McCarthy jumps to the #1 spot after Flanagan failed to defend their 6A title, losing to Park Vista in the Regional Final and falling to #4. McCarthy takes on Wakulla in one 4A State Semifinal, with a possible State Title Game matchup with Regional #5 Tampa Jesuit looming. Jesuit takes on Hernando for the right to go to the title game.

Orangewood Christian and Bishop Verot move up to #2 and 3, respectively with their eye on the 2A and 3A titles. Park Vista moved up two spots to #9 after their big win and face #13 Alonso and RHP Jose Fernandez in one 6A State Semifinal game.

There are two new additions to the Top 25. Deltona comes in at #23 and will face #15 Hialeah in the other 6A State Semifinals. Manatee enters at #24 and plays #11 Lakeland in 5A State Semifinal competition.

Great Plains

St. Louis University HS earned the top spot this week after finishing the regular season 26-0, edging out fellow undefeated Maize (KS). Rock Bridge (MO) dropped from the top spot after losing for just the second time of the season this week, coming in at #3.  Undefeated Maple Grove (MN) is the top ranked team in Minneosta at #4.

Five time defending Colorado 5A state champion Rocky Mountain has won eight of their past ten to recover from a slow start to become the top ranked team from Colorado this week at #7. Millard West (NE) has made a surprising run in the state playoffs and not only find themselves in the state semifinals as the eight seed but also the top ranked team from the state, entering the rankings at #13.

New entries this week include: #9 Cherry Creek (CO), #12 Regis Jesuit (CO), #13 Millard North (NE), #21 Kennett (MO), #22 Eden Prairie (MN) and #23 Webb City (MO).

Midwest

Providence Catholic (IL) moves up to #1 with an impressive week of wins, couple with a Cathedral (IN) loss, dropping them to #2. They are followed by a pair of Ohio schools, Steubenville and Walsh Jesuit at #3 and 4. Plainfield North (IL) comes in at #5.

Lyons Township (IL), Mount Carmel (IL), and Lawrence Central (IN) are the next three, followed by Pickerington North (OH), and Moeller (OH) at 9 and 10.

Northeast

Don Bosco Prep (NJ) remains #1 as they continue to roll thru New Jersey competition. Peters Township (PA) is up to #36 in this week’s National Top 50 and comes in at #2. Poly Prep (NY) makes a big jump to #3 after a big win over George Washington (NY), who falls to #5. Gloucester Catholic (NJ) comes in at #4.

Manalapan (NJ) and Monroe Campus (NY) are #6 and 7, with Pennsylvania teams Neumann-Goretti and Council Rock North following them. Lexington (MA) is the highest ranked team in the state at #10.

Northwest

Shorewood (WA) holds the top spot at 21-2 thanks in large part to Trevor Mitsui’s dominant spring (.708/.844/1.538 with 11 HRs). The battle for the top spot in Oregon has gone back and forth throughout the season between defending 6A state champ Westview and Southridge, Westview holds the edge right now in spite of a worse overall record thanks after taking two out of three in their head to head series this week.

Washington dominates the Northwest top 25, holding fifteen of the top 25 spots, with eight going to Oregon and two to Idaho (Boise Capital, Ceour D’Alene).

Pacific

Edison’s third loss of the season loosened its grip on the top spot but at 23-3 the Chargers had margin for error. They will be tested early and often in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs, but the top seed has a very good shot of taking home the hardware. Mater Dei moved up to #2 and are the second seed in the Division I bracket, some could argue that their road to the title game is a bit easier than top seed Edison’s. Either way it would make a great matchup if they were to face one another for the title.

The biggest mover this week was Buchanan who finished up a dominant regular season in the Central Section, going 27-2 and look to be the favorite in their section tournament. New additions this week include: #19 Arcadia (CA) and #22 El Toro (CA).

Southeast

Marist (GA) takes over the top spot after the three team ahead of them lost in playoff action over the weekend. Previous #1 Baton Rouge Catholic (LA) lost to New Orleans Jesuit (LA) in the 5A title game and drops to #3 with Jesuit taking over the second spot. Wayne County (GA) falls to #8 after seeing their undefeated streak and season come to an end in a two-game sweep by Whitewater (GA). Madison Central (MS) drops to #8 after losing to Tupelo (MS) in the state semifinals. Tupelo (MS) moves up to #7.

Cullman (AL), taking on #16 Spanish Fort (AL) for the 5A title is #4, trailed by Farragut (TN), and Columbus (GA). #24 Searcy (AR) is into the rankings for the first time, although they were in the Preseason National Top 50. They take on Jacksonville (AR) for the 6A title on Friday.

Livonia (LA) is this week’s only new addition after taking home the 3A title with a win over Parkview Baptist (LA). Spanish Fork (UT) maintains its top ranking heading into the Utah 4A state playoffs with hard charging Bishop Gorman (NV) on its heels with an eighteen game winning streak.

Southwest

With the state tournaments in Arizona and New Mexico wrapped up, this week’s rankings look dramatically different. Arizona 5A Division I champion Mountain Pointe finishes at #3 after knocking off Hamilton (#5) in extra innings.

State champions: #3 Mountain Pointe (AZ 5A D-I), #4 Saguaro (AZ 4A D-I), #6 La Cueva (NM 5A), #7 Chaparral (AZ 5A D-II), #9 Piedra Vista (NM 4A), #10 Sandia Prep (NM 3A), #12 Volcano Vista (NM 2A), #19 Catalina (AZ 4A D-II), and #20 Blue Ridge (AZ 3A).

Expect a similar shakeup in the final Southwest Top 25 Rankings next week after Nevada and Utah crown their state champions.

Texahoma

Broken Arrow cemented their spot atop the Texahoma Regional top 25 by winning the Oklahoma 6A state championship over Owasso who previously held the top spot. Clements bounced back from losing their playoff opener to win their opening series and held onto the #3 spot in the region (top in Texas).

Texas’ regional playoffs are well underway and we are getting to the point in the postseason where contenders are beginning to run into one another. Expect some major shakeups each week from here on out.

Since I first saw him as a sophomore, Gomez-Gudiño has long been one of my favorite prospects in the state. The backstop features a super physical frame at 6-foot-0, 215-pounds with a thick lower half and strong forearms. Defensively, Gomez-Gudiño has always stood out. He moves well for his size behind the plate and receives with confident hands. The catch-and-throw ability stands out. Gomez-Gudiño looks to be aggressive and will back pick runners often. The glove alone makes...

Coppy's Corner: April 16 POY Deep Dive

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Each week I huddle with Vinnie Cervino and Craig Cozart  to discuss Top-25 rankings and Players of the Week. In Coppy’s Corner, I dive deeper into these Players of the Week, providing analysis from 20+ years working in baseball front offices at the highest level.   Player of the Week: Jaquae Stewart – Texas State University  If you squint a little bit, you can see some Josh Naylor or Dominic Smith in Jaquae Stewart, with a stout build like a more powerful version of the teacup from the children’s song. Lately, the Sun Belt Conference has been child’s play for Stewart as he has been on fire showing an improved hit approach and power that tracks more with his 2024 performance at Northwest Florida State College than with his 2025 experience at the University of Texas. It’s tough for any player to jump from a JUCO in Florida to the big stage...

JUCO Top 25: April 15

Another week of undefeated weeks for our top 4 ranked teams. Joining them in the top 5, coming off an undefeated week of their own, is Florence-Darlington, a team we have consistently had as a top 10 team all season long. Cloud County and Midland College continue to put together strong weeks and climb the rankings each week it seems. Jumping into the rankings this week on the strength of a 15-game winning streak is Seminole State (OK). And Linn Benton makes the top 25 for a 2nd consecutive week and looks like the top team in the NWAC this spring. Plenty of high-level matchups at the JUCO level for some of the top teams in the county this next week.  Rk. DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: April 15

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
Welcome to this week's small school baseball rankings, covering NCAA Division II, the NAIA, and NCAA Division III. As the calendar turns toward the final weeks of the regular season, the urgency is real across all three levels — teams are running out of weekends to build their cases, and the extended postseason invitations that every program is chasing don't go to programs that peak in March. The next few weeks of results will carry more weight than anything that happened before spring break, and the postseason committees in all three divisions are watching closely. Every series dropped to a team you should beat, every road sweep you let get away — it all matters now in a way it simply didn't two months ago. What you'll also notice as you read through the breakdowns below is that the numbers are doing more of the heavy lifting in how these rankings are constructed. Run...

College Players of the Week: April 14

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
April 14th Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Jaquae Stewart, INF/OF, Texas State  The Texas State Bobcats (24-12) are sitting in second place in the ultra-competitive Sun Belt Conference, and they have one of the most explosive offenses in the country.  They average right at 8-runs per game and can slug with the best of them, averaging almost 2-home runs per game as well.  Sitting in the middle of the order, Jaquae Stewart, is putting together a career year and is becoming the focus of opposing teams.  The 5-10/234 junior from Sinton, Tx is your classic lefthanded power hitter and is thriving in his move from Austin to San Marcos.  While it wasn’t the best week for his club, Stewart was sensational, collecting 8 hits in his 19 at-bats, scoring 5 runs, launching 5 home runs and driving in an insane 17 runs.  For the season, he is now slashing...

They’re doorways into something bigger. For young athletes, they serve as the first real step beyond their local fields, where raw ability begins to meet visibility and purpose.” At the event, each player is assigned a PG advisor who will watch and advise them individually. There will also be other scouts giving tips on how to enhance and develop a...

College Top 25: April 13

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
In a season where remaining in the Top 25 has become a war of attrition, the No. 1 UCLA Bruins (33-2) are making the game look much easier than it is in all reality.  Winners of 27-games in a row, this club continues to win games by any means necessary as they continue their historic run.  Beyond the incredible win streak, the Bruins have started off Big Ten play (18-0) by sweeping their first six conference weekend.  Adding to their resume, in Game 1 of their series at Rutgers, they won a 14-inning thriller by a score of 4-1where their pitching staff registered an eye-popping 30-strikeouts while only surrendering 1 walk and 4 hits throughout.  In most any other season, the No. 2 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (30-5) would be sitting atop the poll as they are putting together a historic season of their own.  They swept Florida State (24-11) who was previously ranked...

PG Draft: Favorite Position Group

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
Every draft class has its strengths. Some years its a loaded group of prep infielders, some years its a deep collection of college arms. In this year’s class, certain position groups stand out above the rest to us. This week, the draft team dives into their favorite position groups. Groups that we believe are loaded with depth, upside, and big league potential. College Infielders It’s hard not to get excited about the crop of college infielders in this year’s class because of who is at the top. Roch Cholowsky alone makes the group exciting. He’s got gold glove potential at the next level and an offensive profile that should make him one of the Top 15 to 20 prospects in all of baseball the second he gets drafted. Justin Lebron is another player with as much upside in the class. He is a premium athlete that can really pick it at short and has big upside with the...
