BCS Midwest Championship Scout Notes

Aarion Gould (2029, Chicago, Ill.) earned Tournament MVP honors after helping lead Chicago White Sox ACE 2029 to the BCS Midwest Championship. The right-handed infielder displayed a direct swing path with quality barrel accuracy, using the middle of the field approach. Present strength was evident, producing two doubles, one triple, while hitting .444 (8-for-18) with seven RBI, three stolen bases and a 1.277 OPS. Gould also contributed on the mound, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out six.
 

Chicago White Sox ACE 2029 didn't just feature the tournament MVP. The club also produced the event's Most Valuable Pitcher in Xavier Alvarez. A physical 6-foot, 210-pound right-hander, Alvarez worked from a controlled delivery, attacking hitters by filling the zone and working the edges. The fastball (79-83 mph) displayed arm-side run, playing well off a 12/6 curveball (67-71 mph) to induce weak contact. Alvarez tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out seven throughout the tournament.

Vincent Alvarez (2029, Lyons, Ill.), an athletic 6-foot, 170-pound outfielder for Top Tier Americans – Labeau, displayed quality barrel control while driving the baseball from gap to gap. The left-handed hitter paired a contact-oriented approach with good speed, finishing 5-for-8 (.625) with two triples, seven RBI and a 1.750 OPS in his first Perfect Game tournament. Athleticism also translated defensively, where Alvarez displayed a strong arm in the outfield.

Dillon Ruekel (2029, St. Charles, Ill.) a 6-foot-1 175-pound first baseman and left-handed pitcher had a solid weekend notching six hits, and five RBIs across the tournament. Ruekel has a good middle of the order presence at the plate. He has a strong frame and a violent left-handed swing, making him the perfect mold for a run producing hitter as he continues to mature. He did a very nice job of spraying outside pitches the opposite way, while also punishing pitches middle-in.

Carter Hyland (2029, Waukesha, Wis.) a 6-foot-4 190-pound right-handed pitcher showed off his full pitchability in his outing this weekend. He went six innings, and allowed only one earned run. He has a legit three pitch mix, including his fastball that was up to 81mph and sat 77-80mph throughout the game. He has changeup with good fade to the glove-side, and a plus breaking ball at 66-67mph. Hyland did a good job of pitching to his misses, and tunneling each of his three pitches.
 

Noah Weber (2029, Crown Point, Ind.) a 6-foot 170-pound right handed pitcher was part of the winning half of a great pitchers duel on Sunday. Weber pitched six innings and only allowed two base runners on a walk and a hit. He put up some strikeout numbers, setting down nine opposing batters. He has a quick motion, and an over the top arm slot with good arm action. His fastball touched 86mph a few times throughout the outing. He also threw a plus 12/6 breaking ball around 73-75mph.
 

Kenny Leuthner (2029, Watertown, Minn.) a 6-foot 190-pound catcher/corner infielder was an on-base machine throughout his four games played during the weekend. He reached safely ten times over twelve chances. Leuthner showed off his plate presence with his ability to lay off pitches out of the zone, and punish the ones that were. He has a very explosive swing at the plate, creating good barrel speed. He showed his ability to affect the game on the bases with good speed and solid base running IQ. Leuthner was also on the mound for 1.2 innings Sunday, and punched out two hitters over 60% strikes as well.

Christopher Worrell Jr. (2030, South Milwaukee, Wis.) the catcher towers over his peers at 6’2 180 pounds. Starts with the barrel on his shoulder before he syncs his hands and lower half during load, creating a barrel tilt. From an open stance brings his front side closed with a shorter leg kick stride. Creates high-end b at speed all while showing the ability to adjust planes. Finished the weekend 6-for-13 with two doubles and a triple.
 

Cylis Rainey (2029, Munster, Ind.) was on the winning end of a pitchers’ duel Saturday night. Went 5.2 strong innings with 6 punched tickets and only allowing one run. Clean and quick arm action from the high-waisted righty on the mound while falling towards first base post-delivery. FB sat 86-88 mph with frisbee-like movement to the arm-side that he was able to locate for strikes and create whiffs from. The CB was his second-best offering on the night, 68-71 with late, sharp 12-6 action. Occasionally, mixed in a changeup to offer up something else for batters to look at. Also showed out in the batter’s box, going 7-for-17 at the plate.
 

Terrell Hampton-Hall (2029, Chicago, Ill.) Rainey’s battery mate and the top-ranked catcher made a lot of noise in New Lenox this past weekend. Behind the plate, he consistently blocked balls in the dirt. More apparent was Hampton-Hall’s ability to steal strikes due to premier receiving. At the plate, he had even more impact. He works with a toe-tap stride and lower hands in his load before throwing his hands through the baseball. A forceful frame allows his strength to do most of the work and create plenty of bat speed. He showed an all-fields approach, as well, including multiple back-side extra-base hits.
 

Cooper Graham (2029, Mukwonago, Wis.) the top pitcher in Wisconsin, paced the 15U group in velocity this weekend. In his lone start Saturday night, Graham ran it all the way up to 92 mph on a strikeout. Across 5.1 innings, he struck out 4 batters with three different offerings. On the mound, he boasts a short but quick arm action. He adds more deception by hiding the ball well until release. The fastball sat 86-89 mph and showed late life with arm-side run. The changeup 76-77 mph was his best pitch, mirroring the fastball until the last 5-10 feet before dropping off a cliff. He’s still developing feel for a curveball, but it showed 12-6 movement on a tighter shape and sat 74-77.

Tommy Cavaliere (2029, La Grange Park, Ill.) a 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-handed pitcher has a mature presence on the rubber and a projectable frame. The #2 RHP out of the state throws from the high ¾ slot and gets good back leg drive to give his fastball late rise. Used the heater early in counts and blew it by opposing hitters running it up to 87mph and sat around 84-86mph. Pairs that up with a hammer curveball that has 11-5 action and created swing-and-miss opportunities during his outing. Tossed 5 innings and picked up 9 strikeouts while filling up the zone at a 65% clip.

Owen St Clair (2029, Neenah, Wis.) has a big leg kick at the plate but keeps the head still and drove the ball all over the park for GRB Rays North 15u - Green this weekend. Tallied 8 knocks with three extra base hits, 6 RBI’s, and 5 runs. Does a good job of staying tall in the load and allowing the hands to do the work. Showed great plate discipline with a developing hit tool.

Another week of Perfect Game baseball concluded as champions were crowned in the 15U, 16U, and 18U divisions of the Southwest Select Championship. After several days of pool play and championship bracket action, three teams rose above the competition to capture tournament titles following a week of high-level baseball. Throughout the tournament, teams from across the Southwest and beyond competed in closely contested matchups, producing standout pitching performances, timely offense, and memorable defensive plays. Tyler Osmanski (2027, Frankfort, Ill.) a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed pitcher worked a 7 inning complete game shutout to start off Chicago Elite’s 6-0 weekend. On top of going the distance he allowed only three base runners and one hit. Osmanski has lots of athleticism in his delivery. He keeps his body under control while still being able to have good arm action and great hip to shoulder separation. He works from the third base side of the rubber with a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball was up to 84mph multiple times and sat 80-83mph. Ranked fifth nationally entering the tournament, Florida Burn 2027 Scout left no doubt who the best team was at the 17U BCS National Championship. Burn finished a perfect 9-0 tournament, earning an 11-1 semifinal victory before defeating No. 86-ranked Original Florida Pokers 2027 National, 9-1, Tuesday afternoon at JetBlue Park. Burn seized control early and never looked back in a game that ended after the fifth inning per Perfect Game’s mercy rule. Burn carried its explosive offense into the championship game as Braedon Mackay launched a two-run home run in the first inning, giving his team an early 2-0 lead. 17u BCS Scout Notes: Day 1 Kenniel Nieves Medero (2027 SS, PR)  Nieves Medero put together another quality offensive showing, continuing the consistent production he displayed throughout the tournament. The 8.5 PG grade shortstop features quick hands and does an excellent job creating separation with strong hip rotation, allowing him to generate easy bat speed through the zone. Jack Soete (2028, Houston, Texas) had a big weekend for HP 2028 Woods. Went 4-9 at the plate with two doubles and a home run. Strong approach at the top of the order as well, drawing five walks. Closed stance with an athletic, projectable frame. Gains ground on the stride and stays on plane with his swing. Bat-to-ball ability is present and power should continue to develop. With the completion of the 2026 13u National Showcase, an event that featured some of the best talent the age group has to offer, 42 players came out with the label of "Festivaler" as they received a phone call shortly after the event concluded. Moving back to the University of Tennessee after a two year stay at the University of Virginia, Ole Rocky Top will see a mixed bag of returners; three-timers, new faces and a couple who bridged the gap from the 11u game into the 13u iteration.  Of the 42 players, 9 players call Florida their home base which is the most of any state while Texas (8), California (7) and Georgia (5) are all close behind nearly three-quarters of the players selected. Jack Postma (2028, Barrington, IL) made an impression in Chicago this week. A 6-foot-5 right hander with a starter pitch mix. Topped out at 93 in his outing at UBC Midwest and pitched at 88-93 for 2 innings on the mound. Slider showed late horizontal bite at its best when finished out front.
