2024 Recruiting Classes to Know

Since taking over in Knoxville, head coach Tony Vitello and his staff have continuously put together some of the best recruiting classes in America, and not-so-shockingly, the results on the field have quickly started to match. Aside from the talent itself, perhaps the noteworthy thing about Tennessee’s classes is the staff’s willingness to go wherever the talent takes them as we saw a mere two or three days ago as they went down into the hotbed of Miami, Fla. and pulled out one of the top shortstops in the entire country with Manuelle Marin. An ultra-smooth defender up the middle, Marin gives the Vols an infield crop that’ll be hard for any other school to match given the trio of Ty Southisene, Trey Snyder and Marin, about as good of a threesome as you’ll find in the dirt, all of whom ooze athleticism and next-level tools. While he may be the smallest of the three at 5-foot-8, 155 pounds, the Nevada native Southisene will rival anybody in the country, regardless of age, with his preternatural feel in the infield, body control and advanced glove work. Chris Newstrom, who joins the three previously mentioned shortstops within Perfect Game’s top-70 is a bit of a wildcard defensively in that his versatility allows him to play all over the diamond at a high level, showing plenty of arm strength for the left side while occasionally suiting up behind the plate as well. Outfielder Brennon Seigler and catcher Brooks Wright are a pair of in-state talents and are amongst the best from the Volunteer State as Seigler has proven to be as consistent as they come offensively, finding the barrel as frequently as any, while Wright brings a welcomed physical component to the group, showing over-the-fence type pop already. The depth continues down the list as Amari Jefferson, another in-state product and top-100 ranked player, and a pair of Georgia prep bats in BJ Gibson and Levi Clark, along with Alberta’s Jack Lines, help round out a tremendous class for Tennessee which will only continue to grow. Up to this point it’s been all about the bats as they have just one arm committed thus far, Georgia righty Tate Strickland, though he’s a good one to build off of given his projectable 6-foot-2 frame and a heater that has already bumped 88 mph.
