MN Icemen 17U Krupke got back on track Sunday morning, taking down Illinois Premier 2022 Gimbel 2-0 in the first round of the Silver Playoffs. The Icemen secured their second win of the tournament on the back of a complete game shutout performance by starting pitcher Owen Neros (2022, St. Michael, Minn.). After some early command issues, Neros buckled down and threw five innings of no-hit ball, giving up his lone hit to the leadoff batter in the sixth inning. He would end with seven strikeouts and five walks. He held his velo quite well throughout the outing, sitting 83-85 mph for the most part. The right-hander closes himself off on his stride, throwing across his body and creating some natural cut to the fastball. As a result, the fastball played well to the glove side, and he generated a ton of soft groundball contact. He utilizes a short arm circle with big stab in the back, and the crossfire delivery adds some deception to his look. The curveball proved to be a nice change of pace for him, and it was very effective as he started to use it more heavily in the last three innings. Neros has an athletic 6-foot-1, 170-pound build with plenty of length to the frame, and his fastball movement and deceptive delivery could be very effective with added velocity.
