Shawn Guilliams, RHP, College of Central Florida (’20 HS Grad)
A touted right-hander out of central Florida as a prep arm, Guilliams opted for the junior college route after generating top-5 round buzz a spring ago and looks to be well on his way to doing the same early in 2021. The Florida commit is an athletically-built 6-foot-1, 185 pounds with a fairly clean operation. The athleticism is obvious from his motion and there’s good direction toward the plate with a clean and fast arm stroke. There’s good balance and he repeats the operation effectively, challenging in and out of the zone with his stuff. The breaking ball stands out as a potential plus offering down the line and certainly flashed it during this look. There’s good bite and power to the pitch and it lived mostly in the low-80s and functioned as the primary out pitch for Guilliams. The heater worked up to 95 mph and averaged right around 90-94 mph that he missed bats with effectively at the top of the zone. He held onto that fastball velocity well throughout the outing and also flashed a pretty good changeup that he was able to miss a bat on at 87 mph. Guilliams is one of many athletic right-handers with starter traits and a potential plus breaking ball, but that shouldn’t diminish how impressive the overall profile is. In a normal year, Guilliams probably signs in pro ball but he’ll certainly have his opportunity to this year so long as he keeps this up over the course of the spring.

Matthew Cedarburg, IF, College of Central Florida (’18 HS Grad)
Since returning from injury, Cedarburg has been one of the more important cogs in the Patriots’ lineup as there’s good top-of-the-order tools along with a balanced, efficient offensive approach that should yield him accolades throughout the spring. Cedarburg is a Swiss army knife on the defensive side of things as he can probably play every corner spot on the field and suited up at third base during this look. The defensive qualities aren’t bad with some arm strength but he’ll likely be delegated to second base or a corner outfield spot at the next level. The swing is quiet and explosive as he starts out very wide with good balance in the lower half and a minimal load with his hands. There’s quality bat speed with a clean, compact swing that is very simple and efficient, while retaining explosiveness through the finish. Cedarburg collected a pair of hits during this look and can scoot a little bit too, to provide some extra value. He’ll obviously have to perform but there’s a lot of things to like from a professional perspective as a bat-first infield prospect.
