John Cooper Williams, OF/IF, Class of 2023
College Commitment: Georgia Tech

One of the more imposing and impressive hitters throughout the summer was the East Cobb Astros’ Cooper Williams. He really made a statement hitting .350 this year with three jacks. His coming-out party may very well have been in August at the East Cobb Showcase where he threw 95 mph from the outfield for the first time; he did it again just last week at the Main Event Showcase. His arm strength is a massive tool; he is a versatile defender who can play both the outfield and the infield at a high level, and the hitting and power combination at the plate is very intriguing.

Outlook for the Class: Adding Williams to this class is a big step for the Yellow Jackets who now have a pair of top-100 recruits in their 2024 class. Georgia Tech already has six players in their 2024 class with a strong focus certainly on the offense. As Williams made his commitment, that now makes five of the six players being primary position players for the Yellow Jackets. Landon Yates, a primary catcher, has plenty of arm strength to make plenty of noise on the mound as well. Miller Green is a left-hander from Nashville, whose size and delivery are wildly projectable as the lone pitching recruit in this class. Georgia Tech has also gone all over the east coast with this class, with two in-state commits in Williams and Yates, and going to Tennessee, North Carolina, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to round out the class.
