17u Elite Scout Notes: Day 1

With playoff seeding and potential first-round byes looming, day two of The 17U National Elite saw a little of everything in terms of high end talent. Big arms, loud barrels and crucial defensive plays were a plenty. 



Fresh off an appearance at the PG National Showcase, TJ Wachter (2021, Shoreham, N.Y.) of the East Coast Lumberjacks has shown the same two-way potential we got a glimpse of only a few days ago. The Fordham commit has had some bad luck at the plate with various well struck line drives finding the glove of fielders. The immense first baseman/righthanded pitcher hits from a fairly simple set-up, using his long levers to create leverage out in front and showing power potential to all fields. Watcher’s approach has continued to make strides while facing a steady diet of off-speed pitches in most at-bats, showing the ability to be patient and drive balls where they are pitched. There is some projection remaining despite his already large stature and it will be interesting to see how far his two-way potential will grow as he physically matures.
