JUCO Notebook: April 1JUCO Top 25: March 26 | Top 300 JUCO Prospects

Sometimes there are tough weeks when it comes to doing rankings like this. This is one of those weeks where I wish we did a Top 30 rather than a Top 25 given the pure volume of teams that are deserving of being ranked. There are 29 teams this week, to be exact, that I deemed worthy of being in these rankings, but, obviously, the cutoff is at 25.

Salt Lake (Utah) took three out of four from previous No. 4 Southern Nevada this past weekend and sit at 25-5. They absolutely deserve to be ranked. Itawamba (Miss.) sits at 21-4-1 and has wins over both Pearl River and Jones County, each of whom are ranked. Itawamba absolutely deserves to be ranked. Sierra (Calif.) took the series from previous No. 6 San Joaquin Delta and are 23-6 overall. They absolutely deserve to be ranked. Sinclair (Ohio) has been outstanding all season and are 21-5 overall. They absolutely deserve to be ranked.

The issue this week, however, is that not a lot of teams in the Top 25 had a losing week, and those who did were ranked too high to drop all the way out of the rankings. There was just no one to drop out this week, so those four teams are still on the outside looking in, despite absolutely having the respective resumes to warrant ranking.

As for the Top 25, there was a good bit of movement within, and for the first time in several weeks there is a shake up of the top handful of teams. Wabash Valley continued to win and remains on top, Northwest Florida State took three of the first four from Chipola in a statement series win that they may yet sweep and Walters State had a monster 7-0 week to remain at No. 3. McLennan used a 5-0 week to jump up to No. 4 overall at 28-7 while Wallace-Dothan rises to No. 5, their highest ranking to date.

Johnson County continues to dominate and are riding a 19-game winning streak heading into the week; they rose to their highest-yet rank of No. 6. LSU-Eunice keeps winning and keeps rising, up to No. 7 overall. John A. Logan stayed steady at No. 8 while San Joaquin Delta and Southern Nevada round out the top 10 after tumbling several spots each following series losses. South Mountain, San Jacinto, Iowa Western, Connors State, Feather River and Ohlone all rose at least a couple spots following strong weeks as well.

Rankings are based on games through Sunday, March 31.
