Tom “Flash” Gordon Joins Forces with Perfect Game

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Perfect Game (PG) announced today that it had named former Major League pitcher Tom "Flash" Gordon as its Head Community Relations and Special Advisor to the President, Jerry Ford. In his new role, Gordon will help coach young student athletes, participate in local community and charity events as well as host marquee Perfect Game events.

Gordon’s MLB experience, his passion for family, kids and the community, along with his leadership skills and baseball knowledge, will lead the Perfect Game organization and its young athletes on a path to excellence. Gordon will help the PG community unify many young athletes and families of all ages and backgrounds through their love for the game of baseball.

“My vision is to encourage young athletes of all ages and skill-sets to embrace their abilities, strive to be the best they can be, encourage others to do the same and enjoy the game of baseball.” Tom “Flash” Gordon

Gordon was selected in the sixth round of the 1986 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. His professional baseball career spanned 22 years from 1986-2009. In 1998, he won the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award and led the American League in saves and in games finished. From 1998-99, he set a then-MLB record with 54 consecutive saves. Gordon was also the only pitcher in MLB history with 100 wins, saves and holds and was a World Series Champion in 2008. Famed author Stephen King, an avid Red Sox fan, even wrote a best-selling book in 1999 “The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.”

Two of Gordon’s children play professional baseball. His oldest son, Dee Gordon, is the second baseman for the Seattle Mariners. His youngest son, Nicholas Gordon, was the fifth pick in the 2014 draft and is a top prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization. Gordon’s brother Anthony Gordon and cousin Pork Chop Pough also played professional baseball.

“Tom "Flash" Gordon had a very long and successful career in the Major Leagues. We have known Flash for many years while his talented sons attended Perfect Game events. Flash has as much passion for the game as anyone I have ever known. He truly cares about the game and especially the young people that play. There is no doubt that Tom Gordon is a giver and wants to help kids succeed in baseball and life. He has a special passion for helping those kids that need help the most. His experience will help all players, including many that live in at-risk and poverty-stricken areas. Flash cares and we are delighted to have him working for and representing Perfect Game."
