Anthony Usui is a 2008 RHP/OF with a 5'10'', 165 lb. frame from Honolulu HI, who attends Saint Louis HS. Usui has a lean, athletic, compact body type and possesses athleticism that plays well in the field, at the plate, and on the mound. He will run better in the coming years as he gains more strength. Usui has good body control on the diamond and on the mound, resulting in a good delivery. He has a quick arm and the ball leaves his hand easily. His fastball gets downhill well and has some late life. His best pitch is a curveball that has very good spin, resulting in late downer action that makes his cureveball a potential putaway pitch. Usui has good stuff. He also has a quick bat and a whippy, lively swing, even showing some pullside power. Usui is an aggressive hitter with solid hitting tools. He stays in the middle of the field well. He is also a solid defensive outfielder. Consider Usui a very good all-around player who should find an opportunity at the D1 level. Time will tell if it is on the mound or in the field, though it would seem likely that it will be on the mound.
