2022 PG Softball Winter Scouting Combine - Iowa
Laurel Richards is a 5-foot-6, class of 2025 3B/1B, OF from Clive, IA who attends Waukee Northwest HS. Laurel is an emerging player who shows a sound skill level. She has a chance to develop into a standout player. In addition to her notable ability on the diamond, she is also an exemplary student. She ran a 6.48 40-yard dash and was timed at 4.28 from HP to 1B. She also posted a 5'6 1/2 standing broad jump. A primary corner infielder, Laurel shows sound and consistent footwork that allows her to position routinely. Her hands are soft, and her glove plays especially well in either direction. She is quick and sure to transition, and her short arm action allows her 54-mph throws to hold their plane and be consistently on target. At the plate, this RHH handles the bunt game well. She has an open stance at the ready and she closes to load and trigger. She keeps her hands inside the ball well and has a bat path that is oriented to the middle of the diamond. She has a consistent ability to get her barrel to contact and flashed some big natural raw power, especially to the off-field gap, that should get even better. Laurel has the foundation and approach that is solid now and is certain to improve as her career continues. With added strength and a chance to play at a more competitive level, Laurel should have the opportunity to progress to the next level! Bright future!
