2020 California Workout Camp (Saturday)
Ty Collum is a 2024 RHP/C, IF with a 5-10 130 lb. frame from Elk Grove, CA who attends Laguna Creek. Medium slender build with plenty of room to fill out as he continues to develop. Primary pitcher, has a shorter arm action from a high three-quarters slot. Leans back as he lifts, sweeps his leg up to an out wide leg lift. Point to target type of separation. Fastball up to 74 mph, mixes in a large 11-to-5 shaped curveball with some depth to the plate. Also mixes in a 66 mph straight change. He did showcase a true knuckleball at 65 mph but its dancing actions were inconsistent. In the infield, glove works well out in front, gathers cleanly. Meticulous with his glove work overall. At the plate, uses a narrow and slightly open stance with a toe tap trigger. Still understanding his rhythm and timing with the pitcher. At his best when working through the middle of the field, power tool will continue to develop nicely alongside his build. Great student in the classroom as well.
