Declan Hickey is a 2022 C/RHP/1B with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from Bloomingdale, NJ who attends Butler High School. Recorded a 5.74 second forty-yard dash time. Long, lanky frame with some present lower half strength and room to add more strength in the future. Primary catcher that receives from a low side-saddled stance, works uphill out of the crouch with segmented movements and longer arm action. Recorded arm strength up to 69 mph from behind the plate during drills. Secondary right-handed pitcher that worked exclusively from the stretch in this look. Starts with slightly coiled leg lift, while working down the slope using drop and drive lower half mechanics. Works downhill from a high 3/4's to over-the-top arm slot, creating good extension out in front. Fastball worked in the low-to-mid 70s for the duration of his outing, topping out at 75 mph in this look. Mixed in two different breaking balls with varying spin profiles, a cutter with short horizontal action and a more traditional 11-5 shaped curveball with some depth. Right-handed hitter that hits from an upright, open stance with a high hand set, high back elbow and inward toe-tap stride. Lofted stroke with elongated, uphill swing plane and developing bat-to-ball skills. Mostly middle-to-opposite field contact due to length of the swing and developing physicality. Will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments and additional strength. Good Student.
