Juan Mendez is a 2023 SS/C, 3B, OF with a 5-8 145 lb. frame from Weston, FL who attends Cypress Bay. Ran a 7.48 second 60 yard dash. A primary shortstop with a young frame showing room to fill. On the infield he showed a solid approach working low in his legs with a clean glove out front, arm actions are developing but should get better with more strength. In the outfield he showed good quickness working around the ball into a clean funnel with a uphill throwing action. On the mound he works from the stretch only with a belt high leg lift, does a nice job maintaining a good line to the plate, showed a full arm action working to a higher three-quarters arm slot, the fastball sat 65-71 mph. At the plate, his righthanded swing showed very hand oriented as he throws his hands to the inside part of the ball and should produce more power with added strength. Good student.
