2020 Mid-Atlantic Prospect Showcase
Zach Johnson is a 2022 OF/IF with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from Maplewood, NJ who attends Columbia. Recorded a 7.22 second sixty-yard dash time. Long, lanky frame with plenty of room to fill out and add strength. Primary outfielder with a fundamentally sound defensive skill set; fields slightly off to the side, gaining momentum through gather while working a crow hop into release. Throws from a compact, over-the-top arm slot that produced arm strength up to 79 mph in drills. Right-handed hitter that hits from a slightly open stance with a lower hand set and leg lift trigger for timing. Incorporates slightly, round hand load and rotational lower half mechanics to get to launch. Slightly upward swing path with steep entry angle, fairly consistent bat-to-ball skills and developing feel for the barrel. Middle-to-opposite field approach with some impact to the right side of the field when on time. Will continue to improve with minor swing adjustments and additional strength. Excellent Student.
