Rex Hovanec is a 2028 RHP/1B/3B with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Houston, TX who attends Memorial. Lean and athletic young build with plenty of physical projection remaining. Works from a well controlled deliberate semi-wind up delivery, standard 3/4's arm slot. Fastball was in the upper 70's and topped out at 81 mph, best fastballs were well located glove side and got on hitters quickly, still developing consistency in throwing fastball strikes and working ahead in counts. Showed better feel for landing his curveball with some power and 10/4 shape, was successful throwing his curveball early in counts. Right handed hitter, sets up in a spread straight stance with a low hand load and a quick leg raise timer, has some raw strength in his swing and can create some jump when he's on time, best contact to the pull side gap. 8.35 runner in sixty. Secondary corner infielder on defense, still developing his footwork and glove positioning coming to the ball, threw from multiple arm slots. Outstanding student.
