Shea Lewis is a 2022 OF/RHP/3B with a 5-9 165 lb. frame from Lancaster, CA who attends Quartz Hill HS. Shea is a powerfully built, quick twitch athlete who shows skill at numerous positions. He is also a player who shows ultimate hustle and gives great effort on the diamond. In addition to being a solid player, Shea is a sound scholar who achieves at the highest level in the classroom. He ran an impressive 7.07 60 yard dash, which a plus average for his age group. A primary outfielder, Shea has a natural feel for the position. He is certain and meticulous concerning his footwork and his movement to position. His glove plays well and he transitions routinely. His impressively powerful arm is highlighted by his 82 mph throws. His throwing action is pure and not labored and all his tosses showed firm plane and true accuracy. Although the infield is not a primary position, Shea showed sound effort there. Again, he utilizes a sure and well thought out plan to position and field the ball. He transitions with purpose and his 80 mph throws across the diamond are solid. His accuracy is consistent. Shea also took his turn on the mound where his obvious arm strength played quite well. He uses a smooth and deliberate operation to work down the slope consistently. He has a slight lower half turn and an easy rotation that keeps him in line to the dish. His 80-82 mph fastball shows sound arm side run and sink and is thrown to both edges. His 72 mph curveball shows depth and bite at the dish. His 75 mph change-up is a sound compliment to LHH as it is thrown out of the fastball window with fastball arm quickness. His "go to" out pitch is a truly impressive 69 mph knuckleball that has an advanced feel and is a well-controlled pitch. He is not afraid to throw the knuckleball to any hitter, in any count and it is a truly solid pitch. At the plate, Shea shows ability from both sides of the dish. The RH side appears to be his more natural swing. He is far more aggressive and shows a smoother path to contact. He appears to see the ball earlier on the RH side. His bat path is flatter and a tad quicker and he gets to contact consistently well. His LH side, while good, is still a work a in progress. His path is a tad longer here and his swing plane is a bit steeper. When his timing is right, however, he can strike the ball from the LH side. His LH swing isn't all that bad, it is just not as controlled or as refined as his RH swing. But, after watching Shea for two days, he'll continue to work at making it right. Shea had a solid two days and shows all the makings of a solid player who projects to the next level. His ability to pitch with a different look (ie. a well-controlled knuckleball) adds to his promise as a player.
